Gear box Fault ZF8 speed

Very good morning.

So where to start, Ok the beginning.
I have had a knocking under load for a year now, Prop bearing good no play in drive shafts all seemed good real head scratcher.

But this morning on the way to work as normal, PING "GEAR BOX FAULT" no drive no noise no judder just like not in gear. So pulled over and put the car in N, Turned her off to see if it would clear. Restarted her into D foot on gas went to pull away, then like the clutch is slipping then nothing and "GEAR BOX FAULT". So then put her into LOW range and still the same. I did pull codes but yes sorry can remember them, something about "speed sensor algorithm in input shaft". I will rescan her tonight and get the codes, But the RAC also scanned her and his said something about the transfer case.

Car is on 111704 miles and i did do a gearbox oil and filter service around 6 mouths ago, and all has been good no gearbox issues at all, changes gear nice and sweet, no noise slip or judder until now.

So an update

Finds out the front diff has given up.
Time to get the wallet and spanners out. L322 TDV8 2011 Autobiography

Hi mate
Yeah, I put the car into drive with the hand brake on.
You can see the front prop going around, but the front drive shafts are still.

So yeah new front diff needed, But its a big job, Haynes pro say 4 hours to remove and replace. But you need to take the front sub frame down to get the diff out.

Hi Shaun, you don’t need to take the subframe down, the diff will wiggle out through the side once the drive shafts and prop are removed, its s a tight fit and is heavy so watch your fingers as it comes out, Not the easiest of jobs but is doable at home.

Have you checked the front driveshafts? If one has popped out slightly, you will lose all drive. The right hand one is prone to doing this especially if there has been work done on the driveshaft in the past and the C clip not replaced.

Funny you should say that GT40

Back @ 2 years ago i had a rumbling coming from the front diff, So it went back to the dealer (under warranty). Got her back after @ 2 mouths and after a lot of issues with the dealer, all so called done.

Yes i know what your going to say now, take it back to them, well guess yes they have "ceased trading"
So its now with the finance company and see what they have to say.

I wonder why they closed down. Too many disappointed customers perhaps?

Its very easy to check under the car to see if the driveshaft/half-shaft has popped out. The image below is for the inner part of the left hand shaft but the right looks very similar and there should be no gap where the arrow points.
