Attack of the Killer Road Stones !!

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Well, my trip to drop my new boat in the water was not without event, got hit (FFRR) by at least three big stones on the motorway, two low down on either side of the screen, the third (a really big "invisible" one) top of the screen on the drivers side.

The first two displayed their damage immediately

But saw nothing from the third one. Parked up and took the boat to the water and to its new home by the sea. returned to the FFRR a couple of hours later to see a 4 inch crack coming down from the top corner. Oh well. Drove home and parked up for the night. Went out this morning and found this!! :

How come they always seen to hit the screen and not the body?

So new screen needed. What do I say I need to the screen people? Its an 02 Vogue, heated and tinted with the dark green band at the top of the screen. Any other requirements? .

Know how you feel, just got a new windscreen fitted to my Cayenne this morning.... Evil or Very Mad

If you give the Windscreen company the registration number of your car their database should come up with the correct windscreen detail, I would also advise them if you have rain sensitive wipers or auto headlights...

Hope you get on ok....

They should be relatively on the ball, but there have been horror stories in the past with rains sensors not working etc. Make sure they bring new side trims (the black plastic pillar covers) as these must be replaced to avoid wind noise. I think they must also replace the strip at the top.

They will double chekc stuff with you such as:

Is it heated
Does it have rain sensor
Does it have auto light sensor
Is there a sunshade band at the top

From what I have read about replacing the FFRR screen it might be worth mentioning to them to ensure they bring NEW clips to secure the A pillar trims as these break easily and as we all know, once a clip has been undone it never goes back as tightly as wen the car was first built. Discovery 4 HSE

They're here now (I am with Admiral Insurance so National Windscreens - I rang at 09:30 this morning and they arrived at 13:00), (I am in the middle of refinishing my air intake as well). They seem to be on the ball, have the right screen, and new clips for the side pillars (they know about the wind noise issue) and the new top finisher. Showed my how the mirror and sensor comes off the screen too.

They are going to leave the scuttle for me to refit as I am painting that up too. .

They seem to have done a good job, left me to fit the scuttle and wipers as requested. Decided not to paint the scuttle in the end but used some "Black Chrome" stuff I had knocking about. They main fitter knew what he was about, said they had to push the side pillar fixings "in" and then replace with metal rivets when refitting. Advised to wait an hou before driving to let the goo dry.

Refitting the scuttle is fairly straight-forward, the windscreen guys fitted new goo to the top, so I just tamped it down with a leather mallet once in place. I lost one of the holding clips when I started removing the scuttle - it shot off down into the bowels of the engine compartment! - so if you are removing the four clips holding the scuttle on put something over the clip as you lever it out.

Not been up to speed yet to test for wind noise, we'll get some rain later so I can check for any leaks and if the rain sensor is still working (Edit - rain sensor works, no wind noise at 75mph, no leaks in torrential down pour).

Pretty impressed with the turnaround time and the politeness, industry and professionalism of the guys who came to do the job

Washing my car yesterday and noticed that the "new" windscreen has a large chip out of it at the edge of the screen, mainly hidden by side finishing trim.... Evil or Very Mad

Awaiting phone-call from National Windscreens this morning....
