3.6TDV8 restricted performance issues. Advice needed

Hi Guys,

2007 TDV8 114000 miles.
I keep getting engine restricted performance bing up. Seems to do it when climbing a long uphill, it will sort of be reluctant to rev up and it wont pull then the message comes up. A slight hesitation is felt just prior to the fault occurring. I pull over switch the ignition off then back on again and it drives fine.

This has only started to happen a few months after I had the offside inlet manifold replaced with a genuine land rover one at a local land rover specialist. The old one was leaking oil badly but strangely never threw an error code or message.

I don' have a gap tool so i asked a friend with a obd2 reader. i cant remember the code ( i think P023D) I think it said something along the lines of boost A correlation something.

I've checked the boost pipes at the top, removed them and they are fairly new. The egr valves were replaced by the previous owner at around 90 ish thousand miles.

I replaced the 2 mapt sensors with genuine land rover ones and this didn't fix it.
I've had it back to the land rover specialist and they said it just needs a good service which I didn't agree with but payed anyway in the hope it was true. I did change the oil and filter and fuel filter last year so it was due an oil change although I had only covered 5000 miles.

The issue remains. It does it very infrequently, but I know on certain hills it will do it on and it generally does.

I think it could be something to do with the inlet manifold they changed but they say not. I cant prove anything. I did check all the hoses going into both inlets and they seem fine. The only hoses I haven't checked are the lower ones purely because I haven't had the time. I was quite happy to pay for the specialist to fix it but I just don't know if I trust them now.

No smoke out of the exhausts , pulls fine when floored and drives really nice until it happens.

Some help and or advice please guys.

Thanks
Andy

Good afternoon Andy

Have you changed the 4 small hoses? I had similar issues and like you I changed the map sensors and boost hoses ect and it still did went into limp mode going up steep hills.

The 4 hoses looked ok I couldn't see any holes or cracks, but I still changed them for an OEM set off eBay and low, I've not had the fault return. Borrowed Grey 2002 3d 204k for a year
Now own a 2007 Java black Vogue SE 3.6TDV8 160k

Hi and thanks for your reply.

which 4 small hoses are you thinking of ? Do you mean the short ones that are on the inlets ( 2 a side) ?

thanks
Andy

Did you replace them Andy? Did it resolve the issue?

I have the same issue, only when cold. It started with a cracked inlet manifold which I have temporarily bodged. I have found an EGR leak and have ordered blanking plates for both ends. I couldn't see any bubbles / holes on anything else when checking.

Hi Johnny,

thanks for the photos. I did pay the garage to replace the valve cover/ inlet but I still have the error. Im guessing they cocked it up and cant be arsed fixing it. I dont know. I don't mind paying , but when it doesn't fix it and they say they don't know whats wrong with it what do you do ?

cheers
Andy

Ive had the same problem since I bought ours back in 2019. I've just learned to live with it now. Sometimes it won't do it for 500 miles then other times, it's every time I go to work.
I've had three smoke tests done, changed the top hoses to silicone, fitted two new MAP sensors.
I have the full hose kit but have to be honest, I've not replaced the rest. For all I know, it could be that. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Check your valve cover for cracks properly, I found mine coz I spotted an oil mist around crack area , there should be no oil whatsoever.
Plus I heard stories they then do crack in some daft places.
ps. Did any of you notice black smoke, when under acceleration in high gear ? like on motorway

I had the same problem on a 3.6, I changed all of the cheap bits and also a cracked manifold but had no improvement. I couldn't justify chucking any more money at it so I had the fault code written out.
It ran fine afterwards for at least another 3 years/35K miles.
No doubt there will be many who will be horrified by this but as these cars get older and their values drop it gets to a point where anything you can do to keep them going is fine in my book.
