Can you use a trickle charger on a landrover L405

Mine is on one 24/7 connected to the terminals under the bonnet. overfinch modified

Ours is on a CTEK MXS5 24/7 for the past 18mths, it’s the way to go for a car not used daily for longish trips, the CTEK will take care of itself, just don’t ever use the “recond” setting with an AGM battery.
You can wire the remote socket to the posts in the engine compartment, I have my socket install in the little lower front grille:

If you have towing electrics one can get adaptors that plug the trickle charger in there which is the most convenient method as far as I am concerned. Only Range Rovers since 1988

It won’t help anything because the Recond mode is designed to mix up the separated acid and water in flooded batteries, and AGM batteries aren’t flooded, so that separation doesn’t happen:

I think it’s gel batteries that the Recond mode dries out.

AGM = “Absorbent Glass Mat”
In other words the acid in the battery isn’t a free-flowing liquid like a conventional (“flooded”) battery.
It’s rather like the acid is absorbed by a large brick of blotting paper, preventing the liquid from sloshing around inside the battery.
The “recon” mode should NEVER be used with an AGM battery, because the voltage in that mode is too high a continuous voltage for that type of battery (15.8V vs max. 15.4V) and will shorten the life of the battery. Unfortunately it IS possible to set the CTEK in “AGM RECON” mode, which is incorrect, even though in the instruction manual this is greyed out for AGM mode:

It is a few squids more but the breakdown boost start ability is a tempting addition...
Was considering the seemingly more popular MXS 10 before researching the above...

Oddly enough as I keep seeing that the item appears to hold the LR produced tag (?!?) the mention of reactions of: ""Couldn’t have been less helpful, giving vague answers or none at all."" This would fall right in line with my total experience of LR to date - totally useless once vehicle purchased!
