Suspension Struts & Air Bags

Hi,

I need to replace my front strut on my 2011 and would appreciate some advice regarding brands to avoid.

Aerosus
Arnott
Britpart
BWI
Dunlop
JLR

I've not heard good things about Dunlop and Britpart but that could be unfair.

Any experiences and suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Dunlop. Very smooth and compliant softer ride.

Mine are still working after 165k miles so I guess BWI make a pretty reliable unit. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Aerosus are doing a pair with VDS for £708.60 delivered, anyone seen any better deals - discount code SAM15 is still working on the site and his reviews of them seem very favourable - am ready to make the order unless anyone tells me that I shouldn't Smile 2011 L322 Autobography - a lot of bells and some of the whistles...owner with no idea!

Thanks for all the advice.

I went with BWI in the end as I needed something quickly and it was alleged they make the OEM units.

I had previously thought I had an air bag problem but after buying a replacement and removing the strut I found that the strut was knackered and the original air was still good.

Of course, buying a strut without an airbag seems nigh on impossible.

Oh well, hopefully the BWI will arrive today.

BWI strut, etc. arrived but I’m a little confused by the airbag connection.

The original has a brass bush that holds the pipe and screws in to the air bag.

The replacement also has a brass bush but with a white plastic insert, almost as if the air line should push in to it.

Obviously I need to remove the hose from the old bush, or cut it off, and then find a way to push the hose in to the plastic insert that is the same size as the hose.

Any and all hints and suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

The white plastic insert is just a plug to keep the bag inflated and to keep rubbish out until fitted.
