Thanks for everyone's support and if Floopy hadn't have posted that video I wouldn't have seen it on the monitor so would have been none the wiser even though I'd previously seen it on my phone.

Of course, this says nothing whatsoever for security if you can open the door with a long reach screwdriver and a hammer!

I will be passing this to my Indy to change the mechanism, it's getting too cold to work outside now. Also, if it still plays up it's their problem!

I'd love to know what actually causes this to happen. I've not seen it on here before and the fact that there are at least two videos tells me that it isn't unusual. Drives:

It would be good to know the cause, as this is something which could potentially affect any one of us in the future, maybe we could even work out a DIY fix?  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Well, it's freezing cold in the garage, I'm not allowed to fiddle with car bits in the kitchen (why?), so I haven't been able to give this much attention. However, it looks as if there will need to be a 12v supply to replicate the action of the central locking/superlock, but I cannot see any obvious mechanical reason for the failure. When I do finally get around to having a proper look, I'll report back. In the meantime the new lock is functioning as it should, so apart from a screw through the sidewall of one of my brand new (3,000 miles) Pirelli PNCS tyres, rendering it scrap, all is back to normal! Drives:
