Irritating, really irritating!

The door pull cable on the drivers door finally gave way last week. No problem, order a new one and fit. If only things were that simple. Firstly, the ferule on the broken cable was seized into the handle, ended up having to take the handle off and drill a small hole under where the ferule sits so that I could knock it out from underneath. Actually this went ok, except by now of course it was dark and getting really cold. Managed to fight the door card back on (why do they always put up a fight?) and finally got it all working. Except this wasn't the end of it. Locked the car and went inside to warm up. Came out a bit later to fetch the glasses I'd left on the drivers seat and the bloody door won't open, what's more it won't open from inside either which means something has gone wrong with the locking mechanism. It's going to be such fun removing the door card with the door closed, NOT!!

Sorry to hear about your missfortune, I had my door cable snap last week but fortunately the repair went well.

Could you lower the window, remove the top piece of trim (with the rubber window strip) to get access into the door from the top and then use a coat hanger to hook the door latch? 2006 L322 Vogue SE 4.2

Isn’t there a way to open the front door by accessing the latch when the rear door is open? Seem to remember something……

Thanks for the comments guys. Everything appears to work as it should, the locking actuator responds to the key fob and the plipper thing on the top of the door card goes up and down with locking and unlocking, the problem is it clearly isn't actually unlocking the latch which is why neither internal or external door pull works. I must have dislodged something when I was having my fight with the door card to get it back on. I shall be out there soon! Drives:

Well, at least I now know what the problem is. The door has deadlocked and then it's jammed, apparently it can happen. I've looked at various Youtube videos and they're no real help other than the confirm the issue, the videos are so wobbly and out of focus at the crucial time you can't see exactly what needs doing. This is going to the garage, I'm out! Drives:

Sounds like you didn't hook and click the plastic connector back properly to the interior door handle. It can look like it's connected but actually isn't.

I'm surprised the ferrule had welded itself. Yes mine were corroded, but a little WD40 and tap with a small chisel was enough to free it.

It may be easiest and cheapest to remove the handle from the door card (accepting it may get damaged and replace the door card if required) and lever the cable manually. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Gary, I don't think I've explained it very well. The cable is correctly installed and was working perfectly (still does, I can see both internal and external cables operating correctly when pulling the door card back enough to see. What has happened is that when I locked the car the drivers door deadlock has jammed in the locked position. The central locking actuator still works correctly and the pin pops up and down as it should, it's just that the deadlock won't disengage. Drives:

Thanks Floopy, I have seen that and a couple of other videos. The problem is identifying the bit to trip when it's in the car. I think I may need to get hold of a locking mechanism so that I can see it in the flesh for myself. I haven't given up, but I think it will be a garage job in the end, but who knows?

Edit: Just re-watched this on the laptop monitor, I originally watched it on my phone, and it is much clearer as to what needs to be tripped. Watch this space. Drives:

What about the “remove & replace Fuse 24” thing at the end of the thread I mentioned above? Is that just t’Interweb BS? (OTOH, If it’s something mechanical you have fiddled with, I can’t see a fuse helping….)

This is the really annoying thing Gremlin, I didn't fiddle with it at all, simply hooked the end of the bowden cable in place and clipped it in, nothing moved which is why I don't know what's caused the deadlock to jam. Not only can I hear the main lock actuator operating, I can hear the deadlock mechanism as well (makes the same noise on every door), it just won't release the drivers door. Drives:

Here's some info for anyone who has this happen to them.

Right, there's good news and bad news. Using the video information (having seen it on a monitor rather than on the phone) I have now freed the door, Hooray!! However, it doesn't fix the actual problem, every time you lock the car the deadlock jams, so clearly a new lock mechanism is going to be required to sort it out. Drives:
