Hello, been lurking for a while........

I'm about to buy a new range rover, but am in a dilema as to which one to get.

I'm lucky that price is not a factor, but there is such a huge price difference from sport to vogue I want to know what I'll get if I spend more.
I like the sport look, but am concened about the harder seats as the vogue seems very soft, particulary the se.

I have posted on the sport forum, so you may have already seen my questions !
Will the harder seats kill my back after a few hours driving ?
I also notice the sport is a bit more cramped in the back. Are adults in the back comfy for a long journey ?

what extra's are really worth adding ?
any thoughts welcomed !

At the risk of starting a Sport -vs- Full Fat Range Rover bunfight...

They are completely different vehicles.
The Sport shares most of it's parts with the Discovery, not the Range Rover.

If you want a sporty drive or like to make fast progress with car like handling, I'd go for the Sport.
If you want refined luxury and fantastic cruising ability, I'd go for the Full Fat.

The Full Fat has a better interior, a better engine (in diesel form) and more space. (front, back and boot)
Also it's now more economical as it has an 8 speed box which has not started to be fitted to the Sport/Disco yet...
Hence it's noticably more expensive.

Options is very personal, but the standard Vogue comes with a lot.
The only thing I'd personally add would be the Adaptive Cruise Control.

If price is not an issue the Vogue SE has a better interior and a few other bits that just make it feel a bit more special.

Cooled seats are a must for long summer runs or when you are tired Far to many gone...

Drive a Sport and a FFRR back-to-back and you'll instantly know which is right for you. You can compare specs etc on paper all day long and maybe struggle to understand why the FFRR costs more. Once you drive them, you'll know which is right for you.

Drive, feel, equipment, engine, etc. aside, I think there are key pratical points: proper space in the back for 3 (adult between 2 kids' seats or 3 adults in a row) and size of boot. RRS just doesn't cut it for my requirements on those points alone.

as said above, drive them both side by side, they are such different vehicles you will love one and hate the other.

I wanted cabin space, boot space, comfort, oppulence, equipment, presence and a damn fine vehicle, thats why I drive a full size Range Rover - if I want to drive a Sporty car I'd take the Snorty

I actually just got back from trying a short run in both.............oh my, I really DO now understand why the Vogue SE is much more cost. All I can say is FANTASTIC !

For me it is about luxury & comfort. I'm not saying the sport was uncomfy, but that leather & those cooled seats really are amazing.....I don't know how long those been out for, but the funny thing is about 10 years ago I remember telling my other half I wish I had aircon in my seats and maybe I could make up a perforated seat cover.....I wish I'd patented the idea ! but I suspect I wasn't the first...probably been around in the states for years.

Also things like the reclining rears & the dual view screen which doesn't seem available on the sport. There was definately more leg room too, just a more classy "airy" feel inside if you know what I mean. I do want to go diesel and again that 4.4 TD is just amazing compared to the smaller diesel in the sport.

The only unfortunate thing is the spec/options I want isn't available from stock, so I'll have to play the waiting game - been told about October now for new.

You'll get a 2012MY then, if you wait. See my previous thread for 2011.5-2012MY detail changes. Not significant, or major - just lightly cosmetic.

If you do want one sooner, my advice is to do what I did: Don't take your local dealer's word on what might be available for immediate or soon delivery - they can and will only try to sell what they can get their hands on. You may be surprised: another dealer may be able to get the spec you're looking for. Following my recent experience, I would highly recommend a call to Lookers Park Royal. They came up trumps immediately for me and couldn't do enough to help (unlike some others who shall remain nameless). Ask for Steve Allum and say that I recommended him. If LPR can't help you, it's still defo worth calling around some others to see what they have/can get hold of.

As I'd posted my original message on rrsport, I thought I should post & close with my decision. I have seen some of the upset between this forum & theirs after reading some posts so hope they don't think I'm having a dig; it's just my personal preference.
I'm not spending vast amounts to be better than anyone - I just like the FF more, so I'll spend more to get what I want.

I'm happy to wait, although not having actually seen what the facelift will be, hope I do like it.

well done! The wait will be painful, but you'll enjoy the car when you get it. Can I ask, what spec did you go for that that couldn't be sourced off the line? Having bought a VSE last week, I'd be fascinated to know what you went for.

If price isn't an issue I would go for an Autobiography. More standard items and leather everywhere including roof lining, door cards etc. Would recommend in TDV8 form.

I've chosen SE, Orkney Grey, RSE, Seat Pack 3 (rear recline & cooled rears), dual view screen, detachable towbar, vision assit

I did consider the Autobiography, but I actually wasn't keen on the grill styling or wheels - it's nice, but not my choice so please don't think I'm dissing it.

I'll let you know once it's here in many months !
