Well, for my twopennyworth I can’t agree with you dear boy. If you’ve got an itch then it needs scratching. There’s no point later in life, sitting in your rocking chair in the local old folks home thinking “wish I’d had a Range Rover”…..it’ll be too late. I can appreciate that yes they are a money pit but so is any other car. Why not look at the two cheaper one’s on here for sale. Alveston red 4.2 supercharged for not silly money or even better value is the V8 BMW engine one a bit further down the page for half the money? Keep it a year & see what happens?
Same as you, I had people sneering when I mentioned buying a RR, even my local mechanic who looks after everything we’ve got (bar the RR) pulled a weird face & virtually begged me not to buy one…..still went & got one though! Stung my wallet the first couple of years but she’s ok now.

Getting in mine makes a hard day in the office worth it. Makes me smile.

I see what the garages are saying, but early costs tend to be previous owners not doing stuff and you getting it how you like it.

The worst bit for me is the £685 road tax, and with insurance going mad on the L405, I can’t see anything better to replace it yet.

Good luck whatever you decide to do. As above.. could try a cheaper one for 12 months…

You must be doing very little maintenance, miles and live in a very safe area for road tax to be highest cost of owning an L322 as it's by far the cheapest of mine. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I didn’t say it was the cheapest, I meant the bit I hate the most 🤣.

I do about 3k a year, since covid anyway.

i have a 58 reg with high mileage ,its my first range rover ever wanted one for years it has a few issues but working through them ......but i have to say every time i get in it i LOVE IT the wife's the same .i will get a newer l322 next year at some point .both me and the wife think its the best car ever

I think the huge depreciation on an L322 making it a £10,000 - £15,000 car, when a comparably aged Porsche can be as much as £50,000 odd thousand is a problem. As both the L322 & Porsche 911/997 were probably evenly priced when they were new.

As many folk can easily afford to spend/finance £10-£15K on a car - but not up to £50K on a 12 year old car- particularly, one which may be a second car/weekend toy.

Thus, if say, your £50k Porsche 911 needs £5K spending on it -in comparison to its value & the fact that someone who can afford a £50K on an old car is likely to have a higher disposable income- you are not going to be as challenged in spending £5k (as I recently did) in keeping an L322 roadworthy.

In essence, people making the mistake that because they can get a Range Rover for the price of a humdrum Hatchback- they think they can run it for a few hundred pounds a year in maintenance. Let alone, the staggering Insurance & annual road tax Range Rover's now attract.
