No aircon = sweaty armpits!

So took a drive this afternoon to Peterborough down the A47. My aircon doesn't seem to be working. Had it re-gased a couple of weeks back at kwik fit. When I put the aircon on I can hear the fans kicking in but it's just not ice cold air that comes out. When I switch the aircon off the air gets colder???? But only slightly but enoughht to notice. Is my unit knackered? I just put it down to it needing a re-gas but obviously that's not it. Anybody had this before?

AC's are generally maintenance free. Refrigerant missing means leak. That means finding leak, fixing, and then charging the system. Re-gas is a rip-off. There ought to be a law against anyplace with kwik, jiffy, etc from touching anything other than air in the tires.

There is oil in the system as well (special oil, not 10w-40) and this leaks out with the refrigerant, so check the AC lines/condenser/compressor for 'damp' spots.

Well I was at kwik fit trying to get my wheels aligned but that didnt happened so ended up just getting a re-gas. Ya get ya money back if the temp is less than 10% before. Just seems strange how the blowers are warmer when on normal rather than zircon?? Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged

Hi Ludzy,

Please could you return to the Kwik Fit centre where you had to the re-charge - they should be able to help. Alternatively, you can PM us a phone number and we'll give you a call.

Regards,
Gerry

LOL! Really why would you do that!?

Last time I took a RR to KwiKFit for re-gas they emptied all the gas out and then tried to charge me. I said what about refilling, I had a 10 minute argument whether they had filled the system or not because the printout said emptied XYZ filled 0.

Then I went back for an MOT a few months later to be told my rear pads were below legal 1.5mm limit, when I questioned this they said they do a visual check. Argue followed again, how can you see in the dark whether a brake pad is 1.5mm or 2mm. They then said I couldn't take it away for a free re-test. I took it elsewhere for its MOT and pads, where it passed on the original pads, I took them out and showed KwikFit the 5mm pads and they refunded my MOT cost.

To summarise - they are a bunch of incompetent morons!

I have to agree with Dan, I have had issues with them in the past which is why I would never use them again for anything.

Well the cars booked in on Thursday at my local jag indy. The reason I went kwik fit in the first place was because it was literally a minute drive away from my house. Never been fussed about aircon before just seems strange how air is colder on normal blower compared to aircon.

Also Gerry (kwikfit) thanks for msg. I may well be returning to kwikfit depending on what my indy says. Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged

Have you had the work done already? The part is less than £200 so that seems like a lot of labour?

No not done yet. Can't get it done until next Thursday. Not at home so can't check part numbers to get a price but was told about £450. Picking car up in about an hour so as soon as I'm home I'll check parts needed. Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged
