Car failed mot

Big Cry I’ve got a dilemma, I’ve been quoted just over 2k to sort out corroded breaks and corroded hand break, my 2009 Westminster is probably only worth about 4-5k is it worth having the work done or strip car for parts, Engines only done 117000 and still drives like a limo LANDROVER HISTORY 2000 DISCOVERY 2 E. 2003 DISCOVERY 2 ES. 2005 DISCOVERY 3 HSE, 2009 RANGEROVER WESTMINSTER

If you think you can get a better car for £2k + the trade in on yours then get rid of it. I suspect not Whistle 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I wish I could but unfortunately it’s way above my knowledge, the garage says they have to lift the body to complete work is that correct? LANDROVER HISTORY 2000 DISCOVERY 2 E. 2003 DISCOVERY 2 ES. 2005 DISCOVERY 3 HSE, 2009 RANGEROVER WESTMINSTER

Find another garage as saying they need to lift the body off the chassis indicates they don't have any specialist knowledge of these vehicles. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I think I may have misunderstood-maybe you are needing new brake lines.

Seriously take it for another MOT elsewhere, mine passed with one advisory which wasn't even mentioned by the garage that failed it three days before because of allegedly serious problems.
It really can be a bit of a lottery. RR owner

Yes, you can’t take the body off an L322. It’s the old L320 sport and Discovery that was on a separate chassis and the body could be lifted off.

Maybe they mean they would drop the sub frames, but that’s a pretty big job just to run brake lines. Assuming it’s brake lines that need doing.

There is a how to in the Wiki… I know you say you can’t do it yourself, but at least it will give you an idea of the work involved to gauge garage quote…

Find another garage at once and don't waste any more money with these people. There are FAR too many Land Rover "specialists" who don't have the foggiest about the models, but just want to justify a higher hourly labour rate. It's not difficult for a specialist to know the L322 is a monocoque.

Any garage should be able to replace and bleed the brake lines for you, without a £2,000 bill. Although I'd be surprised the solid lines have had it at that age and mileage. Are you sure it's not the flexi ends going to the calipers?

Your original post isn't the most descriptive. By corroded you could mean corroded discs, corroded pistons on the calipers causing them to seize, or the flexi hoses. By the handbrake, I assume you mean the parking brake mechanism is seized and needs cleaning out, new shoes and unjamming to see if the mechanism will work (I got a quote for this once and this part was £180 from a local tyre/brakes/exhaust place, including new shoes). 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Gary, you'll find tonnes of 2009 322's with absolutely goosed brake hard lines my friend! JLR have never changed from using painted/coated steel brake lines. Since I can remember we have been changing hard lines from 4-5yrs old onwards!!!

Disco 3.5, If the garage have told you "they need to lift the body" RUN! They clearly have no idea what they are talking about sir...

Why don't you put out a post asking the collective knowledge where to take your car. Others will recommend go here or there, which may be better than a stab in the dark. visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

As everyone has already said, if they say “we need to lift the body” then quite frankly my dear they don’t have a bloody clue! Simple as that. Ask for proper Indy recommendations in your area & try them. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!
