I thought I'd share a positive experience regarding the conversion from rear privacy to clear.

I bought my 2018 AB L405 6 months ago in Louire Blue, Ivory ? cream interior.

Pretty much perfect but I prefer clear glass not privacy. That said, as stated above, I bought the car and decided I would take my time finding a decent window company that could convert to clear.

I know this is controversial, but every one is different and living in the dark countryside, this is what I wanted.

I know that there maybe only a small minority reading this that would be interested doing the same, so I thought I'd share the details

I used the windscreen Company in Ipswich ( I live in Dorset !) but worth travelling for the right Job. Glass is from LR and is pilkington. Cost £3700 but it's a proper Job and the only ever upgrad ( or downgrade ) I wanted.

For me, I now have my perfect RR & far cheaper than upgrading.

Fair play... Id rather clear glass than drug dealer tints myself but, alas on some models its just not possible... Plus in the height of summer, its definitely cooler for little people and pets with...

I looked into this, gathering verified detail.
There is NO evidnece that tinted Privcy offers more protecion over standard Green Glass. The Industry is " up selling " Privacy & has done for some time.

My MY12 L322 bought as a used vehicle has privacy glass which I very much dislike. I live in quite a warm climate where 36-38 deg C is the norm during summer and the heat felt through the front non-privacy glass windows is no more than that felt through the privacy glass. My previous vehicle was a MY10 D4 with the same solar not privacy glass on all windows and it was no hotter than the L322.

I’ve never understood why ugly kid glass has become so popular. I will concede that there are one or two RR colours (lighter shades generally) that can be OK but in most of the blacks/greys/blues I think it spoils the design of the car. Glad to hear that going clear is a workable retro fix. 2016 SDV8 AB

I consider it as just "privacy" glass and personally anything that stops people seeing things inside the car when it's parked up is good in my books...

Never thought it was supposed to keep it cooler because it certainly doesn't...

I always thought that privacy glass from factory was applied between the glass laminate, hence why the heating elements are not as noticeable compared to aftermarket which is applied on the inside making said elements more noticeable?, so I assume the op is either removing aftermarket or replacing glass ?, I for one prefer privacy as it enhances the ‘floating roof line’ look, especially with the lighter colours.
I’m no expert, so if this isn’t the case then I stand to be corrected.

Factory tint is actually in the glass itself (via the addition of metal oxides etc), it’s not a laminate.

I too thought the factory tint was between the laminates… every day a school day….

I think my entire thickness of glass looks dark, so makes sense. I originally thought that was reflecting from the laminate but makes more sense now… can’t check as it’s not with me…. On holiday….. as it’s broke…. Not that I’m bitter…. Or hold grudges… 🤣🤣🤣

Now if there is only a way where you can find these things out on the tinterweb beforehand before commenting 🙄😂😂

Might be worth checking with your insurance company as they might consider it is now a 'modified vehicle' from the delivered spec.

They may also consider the privacy glass as a 'security feature' that you have removed, and decline to insure and or change the premium.

I only mention it as I had a poor experience with my insurers (not Range Rover) for one of our business vehicles and ended with a refused claim (don't ask!).

Insurers and their underwriters are always looking to minimise claims these days it would seem so worth checking perhaps.- hopefully, it won't effect it but better to find out now than when you need to claim, you've clearly done your research so you may well have already done all this if course!

All that being said - sounds like a nice idea, I'd prefer not to have privacy given the choice. L405 4.4 V8 Vogue SE Santorini Black
