Torque converter longevity

Just a simple question, but I know that there are lots of variables to the answer. I'm just after an idea then it gives a better decision making process on what to look for on my next purchase.

How long milage wise do torque converters last?

I know you can factor in a 2k+ price for reconditioning of the box but I'd rather that was further down the line than soon after buying a new RR

The 260mm F38/A85 converter fitted to the 5-speed petrol models (ZF 5HP24) generally lasts at least 100,000 miles before the TC LUC friction plate wears sufficiently to begin the ‘cattle-grid’ noise & vibration. Mine started at 108,000 miles. As you say, there are many variables which can affect this.

Mine started to shudder at about 80k miles. A gearbox flush solved the problem initially, but it came back after about another 20k miles. Then another flush..... then another...... I did wonder if it would have been better just changing the TC the first time round. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
