No, they're only if a DPF is fitted to be able to monitor the catalytic converter exhaust temps to know that it's at the correct temperature for a DPF burn. No extra fuel is injected if only a catalytic converter is fitted.

@Telly-addict and @Ffrr-lover have you guys looked at exhaust gas temperature sensors readings after EGR-delete? Especially B1S2 and B1S3. Would be valuable information. I have pulled lots of data from my properly working OEM system for comparsion. Would be very interesting. I'm planning on deleting EGR too to improve engine health and longevity.

Mine has had DPF deleted by the previous owner.
There is total 6 temp. sensors, 4 for DPF and 2 for EGR, EGR sensors are not visible for diagnistic tool (iCarsoft at least).
So I can see values from B1S1, B1S3 and B2S1. B1S2 stays at zero always. Pressure difference sensor value also stays at zero (plug disconnected).
B1S1 and B1S3 value changing depending of accelerator pedal depressing. B2S1 change only with rapid acceleration, its locate after secondary turbo.

It appears that LR didn't provide retrieval of the 2 EGR temperatures via OBD commands as no diagnostic tool can see them.

Thank you for the information. Do you have also EGR deleted or only DPF? As I'm actually more interested of EGR-delete-only data.
But all the information is valuable, so thanks.
Like GraemeS said, EGR temp sensors can not be viewed with OBD tool, only with a oscilloscope.
Are these readings taken at idle or driving at partial load?
Seems like you have B1S2 also written out then, as this one should be the hottest all the time since it is located after catalytic converter. Ironically this is the reading, that I am most interested in. Very Happy

No, only DPF deleted by previous owner (I have full car history from dealer, and there was lot of problems with DPF from the beginning. The car was delivered with a trailer there twice with red light. And every service visit owner comment was "again DPF light". After 2 years of ownership DPF problems suddenly ended, so probably then was deleting done).
That value on the previous picture is taken from ignation-on only. But I have recorded live-values as well in highway mode.
You welcome:

Rapid acceleration

Keeping 130km/h

Slow down to 70km/h

Keeping 100km/h

100-90

90 with overtaking

But here you wrong, B1S2 is not the hottest. B1S1 is the hottest, due its the first sensor on exhaust. However, during DPF regeneration process its really possible to get more hot after catalytic converter due post-injections. But I dont have DPF and therefore also no regenerations as well.

Thank you for additional photos.

Yes you're right b1s2 ist the hottest while dpf regen is in progress, that's what I meant. At normal driving b1s1 and b1s2 are more or less the same, b1s2 usually only 5-10 degrees lower.

But what I'm after, is how high the temps get without EGR, because they would be remarkably higher.

Cheers
Keijo

Never know, never know.

EGR is used at 50% during high speed 130km/h

And at 25% at 100km/h

Some members here have already done EGR delete, and seems without any serious consequence.
However, there is many cars in Russia wich has engine local overheating and piston melt at high speed (150+) with blocked EGR pipe, so it seems this engine is quite heat sensitive in extreme modes (there was probably other reasons as well, like dirty radiators, some unknow remap ect..., we dont know).
I have driven mine at 200km/h apr 10min, unfortunately without scanner connected Sad and all seems ok.

And here is other topic where you can find sensor readings.

Netherlands

I have received an offer from my local indy to do an engine remap and EGR delete. It would give 350 hp and 790 nm in torque.

He claims engine optimisation will improve fuel consumption and that higher torque and power is no problem so long as you drive sensibly.

The work is done by a specialist here but the actual map is apparently done by a company in the Netherlands.

Does anyone know anything about this?

cheers

Kokamagi - I don’t believe that engine temps will increase during DPF regen if only EGR mapped out, and with good reason…

I’ve had EGR issues myself which causes the EGR to shut down as a self preservation strategy. I monitor the values so can see this happening and the result is effectively an EGR delete as the main valve remains closed. It’s on a very strong spring so very little chance of gas leakage through the cooler and on into intake when this happens. When the DPF begins to regen, the EGR closes, so it’s the same as what I get as a result of my fault.

Anyway, most interesting is that when my EGR fails and shuts down, when the DPF starts to regen you can see the EGR come back to life. However, the only thing that happens in this instance is that when you come off the throttle and coast/brake, you see the EGR valve open marginally and the bypass valve for the cooler open thus sending the gas straight back around into the intake without being cooled. The only plausible explanation for this behaviour is some kind of pressure release, or a way to keep combustion gas hotter to make the DPF regen process more efficient.

As a result, I have come to the conclusion that mapping out the EGR only is not just possible, but probably a good thing for both engine health and DPF regen frequency. Andy

Having just skimmed through all these pages have we come to a conclusion yet re EGR removal (hate the things) and from those that have them mapped out who is a reliable co to use (Still also chugging round in a TD5 alive mapped D2 that was mapped 110k miles ago ).?

Was thinking just egr , not def as egr is the bit that strangles n chokes everything up .

am defo thinking of a remap and egr disabling if possible.

unsure what that means for dpf regens though? although I thought to make the regen work, it actually closes the egr valve to keep the exhaust gases in there? so this shouldn't effect it? Its actually a sport Sad

I had the dubious pleasure of taking off my plenum (doughnut) a couple of months to change out the oil cooler.
Had a look inside the thing and oh my word, I have never seen so much buildup of soot and gunk and what-nots.
Definitely having an EGR and DPF delete when the weather gets a little nicer here in Norway.
