This gets more and more curious i stripped, cleaned greased and adjusted all of the brakes but still i get the same message and in truth i couldn't find anything wrong and it all seemed to be working fine.

the strange thing is when i pull up on the switch the parking brake is working but the car tells me it isn't,

however once the brake is on i then need to switch the cars engine off and then back on again before it will let me remove the parking brake in the usual way, by pressing on the brake peddle and push down on the switch.

I have pulled the battery off it in the vain hope that something resets itself however suspect it will be a new parking brake module thats needed.

It does work but it doesn't seem to whirr away like it used to do, before it seemed to be quite obvious it was activating and deactivating.

I had the park brake fail on my 2007 , same message as you and no sound from rear when handbrake applied. Someone more knowledgeable than me might confirm this but i think the only way to test is to turn off engine , leave car in neutral and see if handbrake holds the RR from moving ( park on slope).

My 2011 failed the mot due to handbrake and tester told me that this was the way to test it. 2015 4.4 AB

I know this is a dead thread, but these are my exact symptoms — did you ever solve it? “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”

The unit that sits on the top of the rear subframe assembly? Did you have to drop the subframe or could you get at it?

Was your issue the motor overheating? What code number did you get, do you recall? Mine is U3000-4B — over temp code that I think is the motor. “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”

OK, that’s good to know. Don’t suppose you recall if it was an over temperature issue, do you? “The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.”
