Hi all,

Purpose of the work was to resolve a horrible clanking sound which turned out to be a rotten dust guard.

As per my other post - lifted the L322 completely safely and with no incidents in off-road height. This is what we did:

- removed right front wheel
- undid the 2 big caliper bolts
- used a pry tool to carefully encourage the pads back
- removed the caliper from the disc, using a bungee to tie it to the suspension arm so at no point was it hanging on the brake line
- removed the allen bolt from the disc
- removed the disc
- removed the rotten dust guard that was clanking around and making a horrible noise (snipped through it and pulled it off (will get another one from dealer but decided to re-assemble without one in the meantime)
- removed the 3 x 10mm bolts that should have been holding the dust guard fast in place, cleaned up everything with wire brush and replaced the 10mm bolts
- replaced the disc (cleaning up all mating surfaces as we go)
- re-mounted the caliper and bolted it back in
- replaced the wheel
- lowered the car down
- torqued up the wheel nuts

Now the car will not start. When I got back in the car, I had one soft press of the brakes, then it firmed up immediately, with engine off. The ignition on/off works, but if I hold the button down with the brake pressed, it just goes to ignition off straight away. It's as if it thinks it's in gear or something.

I had the parking brake on throughout the work, now, on or off, makes no difference to the problem.

Any pointers?!

Good shout, this L322 is new to me (bought it off another forum member and loving it so far!) so I'm not sure how good/bad the battery is. The car was unlocked with key in for a few hours today during/after the work but not with doors open.

Unfortunately it's not here at home, it's in my unit but I'll go down there tomorrow morning and put the NOCO Genius on it.

The battery is low. It's as simple as that. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

Could also be the brake switch - be sure to press very hard on the brake pedal to start it. This happened to me after I changed the rear disks and pads recently. Brake pedal went from very soft to very hard and I couldn't start the car. Pressed the brake pedal much more firmly (standing on it) and hey presto!  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

I’ve got a leak on my servo and have to press the brake very hard after leaving it a few days for the starter to work but agree with others this may simply be a drained battery. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Sometimes after brake work you have to press *REALLY* hard on the pedal to get it to start.

Put both feet on the brake pedal if you need to, push hard and see if it will start.

Once the vacuum resumes, all will return to normal.

2 feet strong press on the brake pedal, started right up. What a great forum this is! Thanks guys
