Just to confirm, it is the blower which is intermittent and not the flow of cool air?

Final Stage Resistor maybe? Also known as the Hedgehog. Worth trying that before a dash out blower motor replacement session Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

When my vent fan was erratic, I removed the intake box under the bonnet and sprayed a substantial quantity of wd40 in though the fans. Some actually reaches the noisy/stiff motor bearings. No more squeaking.
