Rotary gear selector stuck in S mode

Hi guys had this issue yesterday went to our car into R outside neighbours house gear selector wouldn't turn stuck in sport mode had to turn car off put into emergency N underneath the cup holders. Tried to start car several times wouldn't start as it was stuck S. Left it for about 30 mins went back still would start or selector wouldn't turn so I heard about brake switches causing issues with the gear selectors so I removed panel to gain access to brake switch in footwell I barely touched it just moved around a little then went to start car and it went from iluminated S to N on rotary and I was able to start car I put the emergency cable back into lock position and every gear was selectable was this just a coincidence or is the brake switch at fault intermittent causing the gear rotary to lock. I had this issue a few weeks ago also car was stuck in P it wouldn't turn had park brake needs calibration message on dash turned out I had a faulty rear calliper was sticking on so had it replaced all been fine upto yesterday.
Cheers

It sounds like your Rotary Gear Selector is on the way out - one of my previous RR did this and I Ignored the intermittent fault - trust me it will fail permanently and in the most inconvenient location.

For me I was 200 miles from home with overnight bags, shotguns, cartridges etc - arranging a loan car and recovery especially with guns and paraphernalia is an extremely difficult and inconvenient task as inevitably questions get asked, and LR assist tend to use normal
Hire car providers in such circumstances.

Moral of the story is get it fixed asap 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

It’s unreal really that they make such parts like this a nightmare to get to and change I seen a video online for an Evoke and the centre console just pulled upwards to gain access why the f@@@ didn’t they implement the same process for the L405!! Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack

Using the RGS in the L405 over a stick is a travesty. What were they thinking.
