Steering Rake Memory fault

I've got this intermittent issue with the steering column adjustment. Censored

When you switch off the ignition the column rises out of your way - this is fine. Very Happy

Then, next time you unlock the car it should lower to your previous setting or the memory, I keep finding mine won't come down. I have tried pressing my seat memory button that it is supposedly stored against and nothing happens. Mad

So, I go for manual intervention (Can't beleive as a RR owner I have to adjust something! Laughing )

On first touch of the adjuster it moves about a milimeter and stops, then on the second try it moves a bit more, then on the third try typically it starts moving fluidly and I can put it back to where it should be.

I read Dan's post about the steering adjuster tabs breaking etc but I don't think this is the same issue.

Does anyone have any ideas other than a potential software problem what this could be?

Thanks all. Discovery 4 HSE

Mine does this from time to time. I disconnected the battery, seems to have gone away for the past couple of weeks.

Is that a joke? I can't not have the car available for 12hrs!

I tried it for ten minutes, the TPMS light has gone out but I would guess it will come back on after my next drive. Discovery 4 HSE

I disconnected the negative terminal that's attaches to the body by the battery, as this looked like the easiest method.

As long as you break the circuit the end result is the same yes? Discovery 4 HSE

Mine doesnt even move at all!!!! No memory feature. I woud assume this is a standard feature? Also seats have memory but dont "settle" in the default position when ignition is turned off. Is this right??

cheers Ex FFRR 4.2 Supercharged

FWIW I have found the 12 hours thing to be a myth. The main issue is to ensure all modules have no residual charge left in capacitors etc. Best way to achieve this is to disconnect the battery earth lead and then short it to the positive lead for 30 seconds. I actually do this through a standard 21w indicator bulb as it's a little less brutal.

NOTE I SAID LEADS. DO NOT SHORT THE BATTERY TERMINALS UNLESS YOU LIKE FIRES. EXPENSIVE FIRES!!
