Thanks Alistair, but do you know why there seems to be a difference on the steps whether fitted with deployable towbar or not?

I had factory deployable tow bar on my MY13 RR and retro fitted deployable sidesteps with no issues at all. The steps were plug and play.

I think the ads might be avoiding potential for "overpromising" as I think many, if not all, cars come with "towing preparation" and even "tow assist" as a standard part of the electronics, but the actual deployable towbar is an option. Like Alastair, I have both. And there's only one type of deployable steps (and they're an option too!). I seem to recall that upto MY17 use 2 seperate ecu's, one for steps and one for towbar (as my MY16.5 does, I added a towbar, with steps already fitted and needed to add the ecu for the bar). MY17 onwards uses a shared ecu for both, so I guess if you do not have steps then you would also need the shared ecu to be installed. I would assume if yours is MY17 onwards then you already have the shared ecu? Hope this helps! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division. |

I did hear from one company (Pegasus 4x4 I think) that fits deployable side steps (Not LR ones) that they use the feed for the deployable tow bar to power the side steps. So, if you fitted their side steps, you could not then fit a deployable tow bar without having to find another feed.

That sounds like a possibility.

The problem with Pegasus steps as opposed to JLR steps is that they do not supply a roof access switch which is fitted at knee level on cars from the years 2013-15 years after that it is from the info mat screen. 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

Thanks, everyone for your input, the general consensus seems to be it's ok to do but I may have to possibly find an alternative feed.. |

Up on the top right of the page, under where it says fullfatrr.com, there's a link to the Wiki. There's a Workshop Manual there and it might have one - I haven't looked to check but it's useful to download anyway. |

Yes Alistair I've already downloaded the workshop manual and there doesn't appear to be anything mention of deployable steps it shows the deployable towbar also the wiki on the deployable steps shows the L322 |

These 2 threads seem to support what 4RRS was saying about earlier vs later cars. What year is yours ?

Hi Alistair sorry for the delay mine is a MY14 so similar to yours, and those video links are spot on the only query I can see is the plug where the steps plug into as its the same plug I think as the towbar but if thats the case I dont use the towbar so can simply unplug the towbar and plug the steps in there unless you can point me in another direction power wise? also are the steps painted or rubber covered like the l322?
