08 3.6 vogue out 09 4.2 autobiography in

Search over, been on the hunt for a while to replace my 3.6 vogue for a petrol.

Long story short, something interesting came up reasonably locally and after a bit of negotiation I have moved into a 2009 4.2 S/C Autobiography.

No expert but think this must be one of the last made before the 5.0? Autobiography spec so full leather lower half of interior (not headlining) heated and cooled autobiography seats, but no RSE.

Other than in lovely shape, no rust to speak of in the usual spots! No tints, not sure what style the wheels are but “think” these are autobiography wheels? Sure someone can help! Very happy all round!

That’s a lovely looking car.

Is that the one that was for sale in Huntingdon? If so, a friend of mine had been thinking about that one for a few days. I hope it’s a good one for you Smile

Cheers, it is indeed that one.

I would have been keen for yours had the distance/time equation been more favourable!

I’ll get some better photos of it once I have cleaned it up.

Aside from the fact they are all a bit of a punt hopefully it works out OK!

Small list only so far. It needs bonnet struts, the interior/plastics need a going over to get the dealer shine off, and finally, despite the wheels having been refurbished, new wheel centres would finish them off nicely.

Everything else appears to be in great order!

No worries Smile

I've done a bit of a 360 at the moment and think I'm going to keep mine at the moment and make the most of the effort I put into it last year.

That one you've bought is a really lovely looking car. My friend sent me the advert for it. Finding a 1 owner from new RR that's 14 years old is almost unheard of! One of the very last 4.2's as well! Smile

Not quite a one owner, but in terms of ownership tenure pretty much spot on.

The advert was one former keeper (actually implying it was on its 2nd owner), that checked out on the logbook (1 former keeper) and the second owner has had it since 2010. Hopefully in that respect it’s not a lemon otherwise presumably he would have got shot sooner!

The devil is in the detail as always but I’m sure pretty much everyone who looked at it thought it was one owner, cheeky? Perhaps, but only relaying what the logbook says I suppose!

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

I was looking at this car the other day on Autotrader, it looks nice and is extremely late for a 4.2. It is strange its got the incorrect rear lights though.

The wheels were an option on the 4.2 and were normally in an almost Chrome finish when new.

The seats in it were also interesting, I have never seen another 4.2 with the later seat style, only VSE 3.6's (and of course 4.4's etc) with the later digital dash and newer front end. 2005 E60 M5

Are they not standard supercharged lights? Or am I dreaming it?

OK on the wheels, the spare is indeed in the original finish, these have been refurbished.

I’ve seen a few 3.6 autobiography out there with the same set up, EG 2009 old style non digital dash, but with the new style seats and no leather headlining.

Or I am perhaps thinking I have seen that, and it is in fact a bitsa!

They are the standard lights for a S/C.

The lights on yours currently would be the 3.6 diesel or 4.4 NA lights 2005 E60 M5

Have seen those seats in some 08 cars (autobiography) but mostly 3.6 TDV8s, including the leather dash etc, but no headliner.

I suppose not many 4.2 autobiography were sold in 2009! Most I guess waited for the 5.0 to be released?

I've got a Jan 2009 (58 plate) 4.2 supercharged Autobiography, and I also have the same wheels as you have. They had all been refinished in standard metallic silver, apart from the spare in the boot which still retains its mirror finish although that's peeled a bit with age.

Nice looking Rangie, enjoy!

Thumbs Up

PS. On the rear light clusters, yes those aren't the correct ones for the supercharged. There was a spate of the supercharged lights being stolen (they are not that hard to remove), so maybe that happened and they replaced them with the normal Vogue /SE versions which have the red stop lamps? ---------------------------------------

To be honest the lights are in pretty great condition, so may also be they just replaced them with new ones at some stage but obviously not S/C ones. If they fail I’ll throw on some correct ones.

Btw while it looks black it is actually dark blue. I think it’s Buckingham blue but can confirm shortly!

Although mine is a MY 06 (Vogue SE spec) it has autobiography seats in it, heated but not cooled. Previous cars:

Slightly fraught family holiday! And some observations on the new car.

After a week in Dorset with the kids on a big friends holiday we took the xc90 (brand new ultimate T8 hybrid with air suspension etc) a lovely modern place to spend time.

Returned and went to the airport to fly to France. Slight passport issue meant we couldn’t fly! Gutted.

Stepping in to save the day is Ickworth house hotel and pressing the 4.2 into action!

There is no replacement for large capacity V8 engines in big cars! A direct comparison and the l322 is a much nicer car to drive at length. 23.8mpg on the motorway (compared to about 32 in the Volvo with no hybrid charge) and just a much more comfortable drive.

Rear door has decided to stop opening, and the cd changer also now won’t eject.

Other than that, not sure how far we have come in the 15 years between the two cars!

An L322 just looks majestic in the right setting!
