My friend had an svr well looked after 2 year 50k tensioner failed on him engine ruined…

Having said that I’d love one… you know prins do a conversion for 3k on that engine and they don’t suffer from chocolate valve seats and the mapping being di is a lot more precise… Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:

I have a customer with three LPG’d 5.0 SC’s. They use them for business and put massive miles on them. They seam to be fantastic engines when running on LPG… 👍

Thank you Smile

It was a very expensive process and a labour of love but the car is driving nicely as a result Smile

Sorting out the final little bits in order to get this car ready to sell now.

There’s been a slight vibration in the drivetrain for a while now which has really bugged me (probably what made me buy the 5.0 to be honest), however, I think I’ve finally sourced it.

When I changed the gearbox and transfer box in 2021, I couldn’t get a genuine LR rear prop shaft. Mine was in need of replacement as the centre bearing was knackered and the end in the rear diff felt horrible when it was removed.

In the end, I spent £322 on one from eBay that came with a supposed 5 year warranty.

I’m now fairly certain it’s this causing the vibration so I’ve just shelled out £450 to Advanced Factors for a GKN rear prop shaft in the hope I can finally put this vibration to bed.

Fingers crossed!

Well, after leaving home at 4pm on Monday, I’ve just got home at 01:26 on Friday.

The Range Rover trip computer shows 914 miles since leaving home.

We went from Glasgow to Cannock, then Cannock to Gloucester to collect a couple of bits from Cam-Tech-Craig and then to Peterborough for work and then finally back to Glasgow tonight.

The car has performed impeccably and actually feels like a different car to drive to the one I left home with.

She’s not consumed a drop of oil or a drop of water but has gone through a lot of gallons of fuel.

Average economy for the trip was around 24.5mpg with an average speed of 45mph according to the computer.

Compared to what this car was when I got it, it’s amazing now. The difference is night and day.

Massive thanks to Craig too for letting me put him out at the last minute when collecting my stuff too. Thumbs Up 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Someone is going to get a very well sorted "new" 4.2.... Thumbs Up Pete

Hmm... neither... (I think)

The car is running better now after a long run than it ever has done. It genuinely feels like a different car.

If it had run like this when I'd finished all of the work on it I'd probably have kept it.

However...

I love the 5.0 and can't wait to start using it.

So... I'm not really glad to see the back of it as it's just proved itself to be a perfect car this week. I'm also not sorry to see it go as I know I've got the 5.0 to replace it.

Mixed emotions really!

As it turns out, the XFR might be going tomorrow!

Got someone driving up from Leeds who has said that as long as it's as described then he'll buy it...

Ever since this car was finished it’s had a very feint vibration through the drivetrain at certain speeds. Running around locally it’s not been an issue but when on the motorway depending on what speed your were sitting at it’s been really annoying.

When I did the gearbox I needed a rear propshaft. Genuine Land Rover and GKN (who make it for LR) wasn’t available at the time so I spent £322 on one that was advertised with a 5 year warranty on eBay.

Speaking with our local JLR specialist when the XFR was serviced last month, he agreed with my thoughts that it was likely to be that rear propshaft causing the problem as anything other then genuine causes problems. Craig also agreed when speaking to him when I visited.

I agreed with the person buying the RR that I would change this propshaft before he collected the car so I ordered one for £450 from Advanced Factors as I can’t bring myself to sell a car knowing there’s something wrong with it.

Tonight I fitted the propshaft to the car and having taken it for a drive, it has totally transformed it! If it had driven as well as it is doing now, I’d not have bought the newer one! Actually, who am I kidding… I would still have bought it but I’d probably have been trying to justify keeping both!

Whilst giving it a quick once over before taking it in for its MOT I noticed that there were spots of grease on the inside of the drivers front wheel. Upon closer inspection there were grease spots on the back of the caliper and the base of the shock absorber too. It turns out the CV gator on that side has a pinhole on it which is allowing grease to escape so it looks like I’ve got another job to do before the car gets MOT’d next week!

On a different note, all of the parts to do the timing chains on the 5.0 have been ordered today too!
