Sorry what I was meaning to say is I've already tested this and with them unplugged it's full on rock solid hard with no suspension at all.

I'm trying to think of one thing that could affect steering weight and adaptive damping in tandem.

Battery? (Both are brand new)
Bad/poor ground?

Not sure what else?

Yup - reading about suggests that unplugged makes them rock hard ( could have sworn the Evoque was teh opposite, never mind )

When unplugged, is that the same feel as your issue in ride quality, or is unplugged worse ride quality. ? V8 or else ...

Definitely worse, so they are doing something.

The ctek is showing that the main battery is fully charged this morning so will see if there is any difference when I go out later.

About to give it a full engine service now though.

All afternoon it's been hard riding, with weighty steering and a dull, lethargic engine.

Without going back through the whole thread, do you have a diagnostic kit ? and have there been any errors at any point.

If you dont, then anyone with an IIDTool or similar will be able to plug theirs in and read / reset all the errors of your vehicle (just you wont be able to program anything with the IIDTool - that needs the licence unlock for your VIN ). I'd be particularly interested in whether you're seeing any canbus errors, and signals like speed are used to adjust the steering assistance etc, and if you're not getting them received ( or sent ) properly, then that could be a common factor which affects both.

From the manual about terrain response:

If a CAN fault exists and prevents Terrain Response® system operation, general program only is illuminated. When the driver tries to select another program they will get the system fault message.

So when you think its driving poorly, try selecting a different terrain mode and see if it lets you. V8 or else ...

Hi fisha,

Yes I have an autel ap200 and JLR SDD.

I've had U communications faults randomly in the past but none currently.

Car has no faults, no worn out suspension components, no outwardly obvious issues, 4 Pirelli Scorpion Verdes with 7mm plus tread and under a year old.

New air suspension compressor and no air leaks.

It's almost like a software bug to me, a 'ride virus' (as described by Stan I think)

It almost feels like the modules don't get enough power to work properly.

It's behaving exactly like my last 2 facelift l322s.

Once in a Blue moon it's okay.

Stupid as it sounds this is really affecting me, I know its just a car but it's all I think about 24/7.

How can I get it to ride and steer like 'normal'

I feel your pain, it eats at you when you know something is just not quite right.

Hmm. I think you're going to have start looking at live values when you drive it and feeling its wrong.

For example, if the suspension is feeling stiff/harsh are the live values from the dampers matching that ? Can you see the values adjust as the car travels along, and can you see the default static value change between the different terrain modes?

I read in the manual that the steering will reduce its assistance if the motor is overheating, or getting a low or excessively high voltage supply.

I'll need to check the live values available tomorrow and see if there is a temp / volt sensor read out that can be monitored from the steering rack. V8 or else ...

I've had a look at live values for the shocks before and the duty cycle seems to swing between 35-45% while normally round town.

What's the base default values in different terrain reponse modes you talk about?

I'll have to try the terrain reponse modes thing as you suggest.

I did read that about the steering and low voltage etc that's what made me think battery.

there seem to be 2 voltage values for the steering, the battery voltage dropped to 8-9v during crank , but the main control module voltage dropped a lot less, but did start lowerinitially before settling to what’s pictured:

Then I went into the suspension stuff, picking just 1 damper (ignore the top 2)

It was the dampers demand value and current which changed their default values ( found by being in drive on the flat and letting and letting it creep along at idle).

I’ll double check the figures tomorrow but for normal mode, the default current was around 1.2A and in grass/gravel/snow it was about 0.740A. V8 or else ...

Thank you for the values Fisha, I will attempt to make a comparison using the autel ap200 this morning.

I have to go out and swap my car for my mother's 2011 Freelander 2 in order to do some work on it before it's MOT so can check then Smile

Here's what I could access with the Autel.

Here's a video of live data driving along at a pretty constant 30mph.

I scrolled it half way though to show the damper duty cycle aswell.

That seems a little too constant compared to what I remember seeing on the evoque ... that used to change by large amounts going along.

I'll try and do similar tomorrow for you with mine, and hopefully we'll see the values change a bit more than that. V8 or else ...

Okay sounds good to me.

I think the shocks in the evoque are 'magnetride' style shocks as opposed to valved like we have in these so operational differences may be expected but the comparison will show us.

What did you think of my battery voltage whilst running, it was only 12.75-12.85v whereas yours was over 14v
