Steering knock SOLVED!

Anyone who is having an issue with a knock that can be felt on the tie rods and steering rack end shafts, and have been told you need a new rack, I solved my issue by adjusting the 17mm nut on the rack. I pulled the drivers side rack boot and pulled it back from therack and had an assistant rock the steering wheel back and forth and I could literally see the rack arm moving up and down.I adjusted the nut until the movement went away. Problem Solved! Local Indy shop wants to charge me $3200 to fix!

Interesting, I’m going to have a look as I have the same thing, I can feel through the track rod ends, steering rack is secure and the track rod ends are good, really annoying over bumpy ground 2009 (2010 MY) 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography

Where exactly is the nut? Mine rattles at 1 end but the inner joints were replaced only a short while ago and no play can be felt with the ball-joint disconnected from the knuckle.

There was a black plug in the center of the nut, I removed it but I di9dnt have an Allen that would fit it. I think you re supposed to loosen the nut and tighten the internal screw, but I couldn't get it to turn, so I just turned the nut about a 1/2 turn.
