few questions re tdv8

Folks

Picked up my TDV8 from Stratstones last Tuesday. Have been having a lot of fun, along with spending lots of time at the petrol station... Smile

However, a few issues of concern/comments:

1. Car seems to be pulling to the left, a little. I told dealer on Tuesday who looked at it and said the problem had been resolved – on the drive home, kept on occurring! [it has been booked in with the local dealer to look at it again];

2. However since a yesterday the passenger side rear suspension squeaks. When I park [in the normal height] I have noticed it slightly dropping;

3. The doors do not lock automatically when I drive [I understand that this option must be activated by the dealer] – are there any other options which can be activated by the dealer [is there a follow me home feature;

Thanks for your answers in advance!

Thumbs Up

Is this a brand new car? If so, get it back to them and say you don't want it. I have heard bad things about Stratstone. Shouldn't be losing height unless you have selected access - best to park in this height anyway.

Doors can be programmed to lock on the instrument cluster on 2010+. Follow me home feature is standard and does not need to be programmed. When engine off, simply push main beam stalk away and will stay on for preset time.

PS: Update your profile so we can see MY and type of car you have.

But sounds like you have no personal experience, yet you're happy to spread rumour.

Stratstone, like any other large company will have its fair share of numpties. However, they ARE the largest retail used an new car group in Europe. That doesn't happen by accident. I have used them for years without any more issues than any other LR dealer I've been to.

For the O/P, air suspension shouldn't drop when parked so it could be a pinhole leak in one of the airbags. As regards pulling to the left that can be a balljoint. Also identified by a light metallic knock on uneven roads and you can sometimes feel it if you pull on the track rod. Happened to my 07 TDV8 so I changed both track rod ends and had the full car geometry set by Stratstone Solihull. Now perfect.

If you take it somewhere other than LR for the tracking, make sure they put it in tight tolerance mode before setting the geometry.

Sorry, yes I have had a bad personal experience with Stratstones but didn't want to hijack the thread with unnecessary details. But as you've asked:

Stratstone showed no interest in my business and were extremely rude about the prospect of a part exchange which my final purchasing dealer happily accepted at a good price. I know Part Exchanges can be a pain but would have thought for a vehicle which came out at approximately £91,000 they would have jumped at the chance of a sale.

I have my 2007 booked into the dealers next week to get the auto locking on moving and also the lazy locking done as well as the height sensors calibrated they are going to try and fit it all into 1hr which if they manage it will cost me a rather bizarre £101 plus VAT. I can confirm that the follow me home lights on for 40 seconds is simply activated by flashing the headlights with the key out, or in, or in then out, whatever, you get the picture i'm sure Smile Geoff

Folks

Thanks.

Pressing the beam is great if I am in the car and leaving - but how about the other way around?

mzplcg - will ask dealer to look into matter - seeing that it has not even been a week since I had it! The local dealer is providing a Mondeo as a courtesy car Big Cry

supershuttle - Why do you need height sensors calibrated ?

Re Stratstone, when I was looking to buy my new car, I walked into the showroom of a nearby Stratstone dealer which had some electrical work in progress in the showroom. The conversation went

Salesman Can I help you
Me I'm interested in seeing both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport please
Salesman Well, the showroom's closed at the moment because we're having some electrical work done
Me So do you not have any you're able to show me?
Salesman No, not really (despite used versions of both models in view outside the showroom)
Me Alright, probably best I go to a different dealer then
Salesman OK

So I drove to Marshalls of Bedford where I ended up buying a new Vogue TDV8 (picking it up Tuesday - yeah!)

I actually found the Stratstone experience quite amusing at the time though as a customer experience for a premium brand, it was hopeless - not even any attempt to take my contact details.

Height sensors need re-cal because the car doesn't sit level. Advice on the forum suggested a trip to a main dealer or I could start bending brackets.
I opted for a trip to the dealership, one independent tried to fix it it but didn't know what he was doing, thought that running some routine without measuring the height from the ground (or using blocks as i expect the dealer will) would fix it and he couldn't sort the locking out either Banging Head Geoff

That's a good thing, if they lend you a new TDV8 it will just ends in tears as you reach for your wallet Whistle Geoff
