Alignment / Tyre Wear

Hi All,

First time poster here, just picked up my first L322.

I was going to get it aligned as the Front Left tyre has a lot of wear on the outer edge, however;

Is this normally linked to incorrect alignment on these cars, or is it more a sign of a worn bush somewhere? I'm assuming the alignment doesn't easily get knocked out given the abuse these can take off road?

Do these need someone who's well versed in FFRR's to align them? Or does any Tyre shop with a Hunter suffice? Didn't know if there was a service mode the air suspension needs setting to etc...

Thanks in advance,

Garage with Hunter system for four wheel alignment. Should be set in tight tolerance mode. Check with them that they do it.

Using Gap iid tool I set it myself to be sure John

Weegie, That's interesting, Didn't know that you could put it into tight mode through the iid tool. Is easy to set up?.

Straightforward. Have to access the menu but IIRC through the suspension setup. John

Before you take action, as it is a front tyre and you only mention one side wearing, has the car had a new steering arm joint or any recent work on the front end? It could just be a simple case of the tracking being out, which can be rectified at most good garages. Just a thought, could save uou a few pennies Thumbs Up

Thanks Weegie,

I notice you are in E.Sussex same as me, is there anywhere in particular local you'd recommend for maintenance/ service?

Locals I'm aware of, but have no experience with:
Thatched Garage
RCV
Pilbeam Bob

I went to Tyre Spot in Durham today and got a 4-wheel alignment check on my L405.
They said it would be £90 over the phone, but when I got there, they got the car set up straight away and despite having new front lower arms fitted, all parameters were within tolerance so they said “no charge, sir!” Very friendly staff, and spacious waiting room with TV, plus, you can actually see them logging your vehicle into the system on another screen in the waiting area, and going through the procedure step-by-step, so you know its been done properly, great stuff! Thumbs Up Very impressed. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Wear on a single tyre would suggest more than a simple toe adjustment. Worn bushes, joints, shock absorbers etc should all be investigated. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
