Why did you buy a FFRR? I can already hear some people muttering 'Oh here we go, it's that village idiot asking the obvious again'
A good friend asked me to solve the following problem.....

You see a FFRR virgin looking at a potential used FFRR purchase, how does he/she justify buying the car when he/she mentions it to the boss at home (I am not going woke, just avoiding any potential incoming flak )

I thought this was an easy problem to answer, until he added.... the justification must be, intelligent, well thought out, rational, logical, and the reasoning valid enough to make a water tight case for buying the car...... Especially when talking to non believers.

How have other members, especially self warranty spanner wielders, managed this? as my friend's boss, who was involved in the conversation shot me down in flames

Members like Craig at CTC have an exemption from answering this question as it's obvious that 'Lorna' has already been subject to the full brainwashing programme, but others may have had a hard time justifying their purchase

My reasoning, which was accepted, was as follows:

I've had a lot of cars. They've all been good in one way or another. Many of them have done things well, and others not so well.

Consider the FFRR. It's all the car you need.

Bad weather? It'll get there.
Up a hill/down a track/over a rocky stream bed/through a flood (within reason)? It'll get there.
Need to move a washing machine? Done.
Want to take elderly parents to dinner/France/down the road in comfort? Sorted.
What if we need to take kids somewhere? Telly/DVD in the back. Job done.
Take the dog for a walk somewhere? Yeah, anywhere you wanna go.
It's cold and snowy, do I have to go out? Heated seats, steering wheel, and FBH preheat. Nice one.
Have to travel 2000mi in a week? There's no better place.
It'll be expensive to run! Well, maybe. Big fuel tank = big gaps between filling it up, so that's a bonus.
What if it breaks down? It'll get fixed, just like any other car.

The tax is £600 a year! WTF???

All of the above, plus nothing can beat it at the price for space, comfort, waftability, and feel-good factor. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Telling my wife I no longer wanted to tow our 2 ton caravan after 40 years unless I had a Range Rover seemed to work.
To other people who might question why I have one I say' Would you rather be in a Range Rover or a normal car if they were to be in a nasty accident'?

I don’t justify it - I just want one (or 2) full stop.

My wife likes to fly business class, so it was easy to take her for a test drive and she told me to buy one. Current MY2020

Well, it just feels “right” and the best at what it does.

It just does everything you ask of it, so you’d probably need 3 vehicles if you didn’t have one.

There is no place it doesn’t fit in…. Excluding perhaps tight spaces 🤣.

Motoring isn’t cheap, so I took the view that I might as well enjoy where I am.

Maybe do it the other way… test drive a Range Rover with her, and then get her to justify not having one when you test drive other cars, as there will be always be something they don’t do as good…..
