Auto Wipers and Lights At last!

After living without the luxuries of auto wipers and lights since I bought my car over 3 years ago, I’ve finally got them working thanks to Landy Man Sam’s latest YouTube video (he of the ‘famous’ cheapest 4.4TDV8).
Having gone down the route of a new windscreen sensor which didn’t work, I saw a comment on one of Sam’s recent videos about fixing the wiring under the driver’s side carpet. Just as Sam found, the 4 green/red wires which had once been crimped together were now joined with nothing but whiteish powder (I.e. no longer connected). A trip to Halfrauds and a pack of crimps later and I’m a very happy owner.
(If Sam reads this, I checked the other crimped examples while I was in there and only one was a little dodgy whilst the others were still all nice and shiny copper coloured so don’t worry too much!).
I had thought about taking lots of photos of the procedure but I think Sam’s video covers it perfectly (from about 5 minutes in the video below).

I have just watched the video and then found this thread.

I replaced my sensor this morning on my 2011 and still nothing so into the wiring loom tomorrow to look for these red and green wires…

Sorted mine this morning very easy straightforward job, didn’t need to unravel the loom and factory loom tape used at the end so nice and neat repair.

Thank you FFRR forum

I hope you feel as smug as I did when I fixed mine. I’m still getting used to the lights turning themselves on Laughing 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

Is my 2004 FFRR supposed to have auto lights? The rain sensor worked for sure before screen was replaced. Never used any auto-light function, not sure the car needed any more excuse to eat the battery so not one for long term use for me.

I did this repair about 6 months ago and I’m still cheering when the lights or wipers go on!
Very satisfying job!

The switch does have 'A' so something to look forward to. Do we trust FFRR electronics enough to leave the lights on Smile Most of my cars were from Italy where the lights *always* go off when key is removed. The Italian people clearly needed more than guidance. 2004 L322 BMW 4.4v8 petrol/lpg

Great felling when you manage solve a problem. yourself that's what I love about my TDV8 2008. Re the auto lights. I currently have a parasitic drain.First thing I did was turn off the auto lights. Didn't change a thing. Still have the drain. However using this forum I have a number of hot leads (excuse the pun) to follow. Bought a Gunson 77068 Auotmatic Fuse Adaptor Test lead via Amazon for about £12. A post for the future .....

Just done the fix to my 2011 TDV8! The wires were still together but badly corroded so I stripped back the four wires, wound them together, crimped them up and wrapped in insulating tape. Ignition on and sprayed the windscreen....result! Just wait for darkness now to test the lights! So pleased I found this fix as the local LR main stealer wanted £350 just to find the problem! Took me less than an hour! 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE
