Is any oil OK if it meets the spec?

Having a conversation today, and I thought that provided an oil meets the LR specs, it would be OK?

for example, Mannol have an oil, spec says STJLR.03.5003 and ACEA A5/B5 and is fully synthetic, but it is pretty cheap compared to others available here in France.

Best avoided or OK?

It's the correct specification - as in it meets the minimum requirements, they are a decent brand but don't have the manufacturer affiliations of Mobil, Castrol etc.
Personally i wouldn't hesitate to use it provided the vehicle isn't continually being worked hard and service intervals extended.

Then buy it, relax and spend the savings on some good wine & cheese.

I've used Mannol oils previously and not had any problems. If it meets the spec, it meets the spec. Kev

Thumbs Up ditto from me too,

If it meets the spec, and there is no higher spec, you can’t really improve on that, can you? Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
