TDV8 4.4l - as per other posts things are being taken out to fix a squeaky aux belt.

I’ve had a look over YouTube but cannot find something that shows the fan spinning… or not. The closest i have gotten to is for a LR3 far replacement. Both the old and new seem to freely spin, and the design looks very similar to what i have.

I must admit, it's not a test I've ever done, it does sound like the sort of behaviour I'd expect though. Do you have diagnostics capable of reading the fan speed and commanding it's lockup percentage? That would be the only way to reliably confirm correct operation that I know of. |

I remember going to the motor show with my brother in approx 1990 when the viscous transfer box was introduced to the Classic Range Rover. ( Not sure if the viscous fan came in at the same time, but it was included)

Stiff is normal. Should spin smooth, but with a smooth fiction feeling. Think like sliding a bag of flour across a worktop. It’ll slide with an even force, but as soon as you stop pushing, the bag will stop. The fan movement will be the same sort of movement. V8 or else ... |

Good morning all. No option to read diagnostics at this stage as the fan is out of the car. however its a moot point as I have taken delivery of a new fan, and… it has the same behaviour! So yes, to answer this fully… the viscous fan does turn with resistance which loosens the more you turn it. Isn't this the part that does the clicky clicky noise (mine does it - more so in winter) but when owners have changed them they start clicky as per usual a few weeks later?
