Apple Car Play on 2017 model

Hi All,

I have apple car play on my model but it needs to be plugged in to the phone, its not bluetooth enabled.

Ive had it working twice in about 20 tries.

Ive replaced the lead with a genuine apple one but that hasn't fixed the intermittent connecting problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jay, I have this on my MY2017 and it only works with a cable, but reliably.
(Bluetooth not possible, I think)
Did you try another iPhone in case it’s a phone issue?
Is the car entertainment software updated to the latest version?
After that, dirty socket? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks Gremlin. Have tried all of those and still no joy, even cleaned the fluff out of my port and the car. Just need to try another phone to rule out mine being the problem. It has worked so it should be ok, cant figure it out.

“ even cleaned the fluff out of my port and the car.”

-that bit made me snigger a bit! Shocked Laughing Laughing

If I even dare mention battery voltage, I’ll be shot at dawn by an unruly FFRR mob, so I’m afraid I can’t help further Shocked

Hope someone cleverer than me comes along soon Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Mine works very reliably via the cable. Never had issue.

I have also bought this CPLAY2air adapter which added the wireless car play functionality. Its works ok most of the time but not as reliable as the cable.

Does your phone charges when you connect the cable every time and just the car play doesn't come up? If it doesn't charge i would think the media unit or the usb ports are not working properly. 2017 Range Rover SDV6 AB

It works fine when I plug it in to charge, Sometimes have to wobble the cable.

It recognises the phone for Land Rover Apps and connects to that perfectly. Then it says I have to disconnect from the App to use Apple car play so I say ok and then it searches for a while then it says disconnected and then it goes back to the main menu.

I will try my wife's phone and see if hers connects ok.

It will only work with a cable, even my 2021 MY has to be plugged in!

The software on late 2017 and especially the earliest 2018 facelift cars had a lot of problems with ACP so if I were you I'd get your dealer to check it out. It probably needs an update which I doubt your car is compatible with as a SOTA upload. All LR cars from 1984

Am I right in assuming you have the latest update on your iPhones (16.3)? If so then I would bet that the ACP in you car's Incontrol is not compatible. I'd call your dealer and ask for the latest update.

Hope you get it sorted, it's very frustrating when the tech doesn't work!! All LR cars from 1984

I must say that, since the latest ICTP update (S22A_22.32.4-928505), the connection is much improved. I am using a Cplay2air wireless adapter and I would say it fails only once in 50-60 connections. In that case, only a system reboot (car closed for 10 minutes) reenables the CarPlay connection... Still, it's acceptable, given the crappy intel atom NUC (Next Unit of Computing) mini PC that strives to keep the infotainment alive...

Thanks to all for your comments.

I am pleased to report that an update of the software on my iPhone seems to have fixed the problem!

It connects and works every time now!

Thanks so much.
