Is this a DIY job on a V6? What’s involved?
Can it be done from above?
Anyone know the LR part numbers for the boot and the two bolts?

Mine has split vertically right along the seam, not what you would expect if it was decent rubber……….
MOT due soon, need to get it sorted asap. Bow down “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Hi Stan, thanks.

I think that’s the whole shebang, universal joint complete with boot? About £250.

Does anyone know if the boot is available separately?

(Knowing JLR, possibly not Censored ). Sad “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

You are supposed to replace the steering column bolts too:

1x LR033655
1x QYG500090

I cannot find the boot part number separately from the entire unit:

1x LR033647

Here is the complete part for £100 https://jlr.parts/product/steering-joint-lr033647/

Following as I will likely need one too. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

Thanks Bora, yes both bolts acc to WM.

Fingers crossed, there’s one in Lithuania for £66 + £18 shipping on eBay, but if I can just buy a boot the joint is fine…. Bow down Bow down Bow down “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

@Bora20:

JLRparts are out of stock, so I bid £50 on the eBay one and they accepted Very Happy

Lets hope it arrives before March and the MOT otherwise I’ll be paying £250 and selling you that one for £100 Laughing

Will get the bolts from the stealers, can’t be much, can they? Embarassed “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Update:

I visited the LR dealers today to pick up the 2 bolts, and asked thm to check out the joint also, but they told me that LR033647 does not exist, it should be LR033648, which is funny, as its clearly shown on the box in the pic on JLR Parts website!? LR price inc VAT is £187.67 for the complete joint & boot, bolts were £2.09 the pair.

The rubber boot is defo not available on it’s own, but the number embossed om the boot is 683909-C00 SM11,
(that’s a double zero after the C ).

Anyone able to cross-ref this at all?

If this is a common failure, it might be possible to find an alternative boot, or have some made up in a small batch? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Update:

THIS arrived today from Lithuania, my £50 purchase off eBay:

Very nice condition for a 2017 part, compared to mine the rubber seems better quality, smoother finish, the UJ operates very smoothly with no play, so I just saved 150 quid Very Happy
New bolts to go on, as above.
Um, wasted some of my savings (£15) on a set of LEXIVON E-Torx sockets from Amazon to add to my toy cupboard Whistle
Really pleased with the quality for the price, although half of them are probably too small for the car.

Hmmmm, wonder what I’ll be doing this Weekend………….. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Sorry, forgot to mention, in case anyone else is considering similar, nearly ALL the ones on eBay are SPLIT, therefore useless.
Repeat, the rubber part is unavailable separately from JLR. So be careful purchasing used parts, and always ask the Seller if there is any damage whatsover, to avoid being done over. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
