what is the engine model James if you are going in the wheel side and liner out the bonnet cable runs behind the liner on o/s I have seen a vid showing someone giving the outer cable a good pull and the bonnet opened . if not might need to remove the engine cover and get underneath to get at the alternator

Thanks everyone for all the advice.
I eventually managed to get in last night. I was able to unearth the starter motor to get a live feed in.
Battery happily charging.
What a great forum!

spot on James that must have been a bit of a scruff to get to. at the moment I am putting in a live feed from the main battery running 10 mm cables to go behind the front bumper so you can get to them from the lower vent wear the washer bottle is just flip out the vent and you will have direct power hook up so you can energize the main battery. I have already installed a second battery in the back but if the main battery in the engine bay goes down there is no power to energize the 100 am relay on the second backup battery in the back so you need to get 12 volts to switch the back up when you turn the ignition key things you have to do just to get in . it might be time to get another horse bit of hay some oats and a bucket of water job done new vehicle purchase

I’ll also be adding a fly lead incase it ever happens again.

I’m not going through all that again 😂

Now I can get on and replace the Alternator, belts, tensioner and idlers
