These foam rubber insulators on my 2012 Westie have started to crumble and absorb a lot of water.

Am I ok to just remove them?

I think they are supposed to reduce noise.

Plenty of folk have removed them without issue.

No idea how much new ones are though.

Many thanks, I thought they may be blocking a noise path. It looks like the are about £20 each, but if they hold water I would sooner do without them Kevin

I’d imagine yours are the original ones, so may be a good 8 odd years before new ones have the same issue?

See if there is more noise without them and decide whether you need them.

Remove and bin them.
They serve all purpose apart from trapping water and mud risking rust.

these pads are designed to reduce wind noise..and yes if you get them wet and then have a freeze then its very difficult to open the bonnet cos they stick to it..

There was some discussion of something like these on the L322 owners FB group a few days ago. The suggestion was that they direct draining water toward the drains and stop it pooling and then getting into the front door hinge mechanisms. The pads being referred to, as far as I could determine, seemed to be under the bonnet and underneath the bottom of the A-pillars so it may be different ones. I’ll have a look on my 2012 next time the bonnets up and see what’s actually there.

I wonder if anyone whose binned these has had water ingress issues into the front doors ? TDV8 4.4 2012

Interesting you say that Ramblin Man. When I open my front near side door after washing or rain, I get a constant fine dribble of water that lasts for about a minute from the corner of the door seal.
I just presumed it was going down the window seal.

That’s why I figured that for what they cost, might as well put new ones in. They obviously do something, maybe in addition to noise suppression.
