Immobiliser issue or something else? Morse code noise

https://youtube.com/shorts/LB-UUzhkBxM?feature=share
Can anyone tell me what this morse code noise is you can hear in the video, coming from the gear selector please?
My 2005 TD6 won't start. The steering lock, unlocks and locks, the key turns through all 3 positions, but the car won't start but just makes this funny noise from the gear lever area.
I originally thought it was the immobiliser not recognising the key transponder. I tried the fuse 18 trick but it didn't work.
I'd appreciate any help or thoughts on the matter.
Thanks.

Same happened to me (2006 Td6), key in, turned ok, transponder recognised etc, steering wheel lowered into position, EVERYTHING worked but engine would not start, not even attempt to turn over, noise with mine sounded a 'little' different, but other wise had the same situation. No warning lights at all.

Fitted a new ignition switch, the plastic section at the bottom of the ignition key barrel and this fixed it.This entails basically removing the centre console ( loosening the main section so it could be lifted for access to the switch.

The below thread from the wiki is an excellent guide (Including lots of photos) on how to do it, I found the guide invaluable. Tools you will need include torx keys / bits and a trim tool kit makes it easier.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up

Just a quick addition to what I said - when mine failed, at first it was the odd random start failure, which became more frequent, then it failed completely whilst on my driveway, I was lucky that day Very Happy
It was only upon complete failure that I really got that low volume noise when trying to start.

Hope it's warmer where you are, I had to do mine outside at -5C bloody degrees Big Cry

Merchy, did you have to buy new keys as well? Is the replacement ignition switch a separate part or is it part of a whole new ignition barrel as well?
I'm just getting my info together so I can source the right thing๐Ÿ‘ Travelling around in circles again.

Merchy, it's +3๐Ÿ™‚, but it's the french back of beyond for anything Rangie related. The 4x4 of choice here is the Dacia Duster, so out of pure pride I have to get my old ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡งL322 back on the road๐Ÿ‘ Travelling around in circles again.

No new keys needed Very Happy Once you disconnect the wiring harness as in the guide, you remove the assembly and then split the steel barrel etc from the plastic ignition switch, (completely separate part) fit new switch and bingo.

Example shown in link below, ( Genuine spare)this is where I got mine from, but it will be worth checking site sponsors. I have no idea about any customs hassle etc if you import from the UK. They have this in stock now, and are usually quick to respond. I have no connection with this company whatsoever.

If the link does not work, it's from'LR Parts, Liverpool
