For reliability and space I'd go for the Skoda Superb estate. However I have had a 2011 TDV8 4.4 for the last 5 years and the only thing to go wrong was the inlet manifold (£1600) - known weakness/por quality part. Other than that it is faultless. That would be my choice if you do long trips, off road at times (shooting, that sort of thing) or live in an area of flood risk.

Have you looked at an XC60 or an old model XC90? |

I too would be looking at the Skoda. The rear legroom is greater than an S class and it has (maybe only in elegance trim level and matched only by the Rolls Royce something) umbrella drying cubby holes in the doors. Specs may have changed since I looked at one though. MrsWold would choose whichever one came in green. Chris

Pics are the range-topping “Laurent & Klement” version in a very dark almost black metallic brown, which in the sunshine is an awesome colour, and those wheels are huge too, 20” I seem to recall. An elegant car. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that? |

We also have brollies, but cheapo ones, in our cubby holes but they are not designed to dry said brollies. Chris

Ah, the Samsonite ones (being Biblical type) just don’t get wet, after all, they are designed to withstand rain for 40 days & 40 nights……. |
