Hi All,

So I can run some tests by myself, I need a push button on a lead to spin up the starter motor. I there a simple connection under the bonnet to connect to? In the very large black box, I found a unit with a medium current red lead connected to it and disappearing into the flexible plastic cable 'pipes'. I think this might be the power to the starter solenoid and a suitable place to connect +12V via a heavy current switch.

Can anyone help?

Sorry, but isn't it a bit more complex than that - ie the car is immobilised, so the fuel pump won't run, neither will the PCM for fuel injection etc. I'm fairly confident it wouldn't be a case of running the starter motor.

I think for remote start to work, you'd need a transponder hidden behind the dash that can be read by the ignition? 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

it will. i did that when ecu refused to start with button. Just modify starter relay in black box to have button on it. If you first press start button to switch power on engine will start.

Thanks for the updates. I should have been clearer in my description. I have an intermittent diesel fuel problem. Occasionally, she just dies. No warning. We are homing in on the problem however. In the meantime, if the engine dies, we pull over, I squirt 'EasyStart' into the air intake whilst my wife cranks the engine on the key. Our L322 is an old one. No start button, just a mechanical key. Within seconds, she (the car) fires up and off we go for another few hundred miles.

So I can do this on my own, I need this remote start switch/button. I'll leave the key in the ignition (switched on in position #2) and use the remote start to provide the engine cranking.

I'll scan through 'Rave' to locate the starter relay.

Tank level when engine dies? Always in the bottom or even when full of fuel?

I can't remember. Now I making sure the tank is at least 1/2 full all the time.

Does the 2004 L322 TD6 even have a starter relay to energise the starter solenoid on the starter motor itself? I've looked through RAVE and found references to Engine bay relay box (P125a) and the starter relay (RL16) but where is the starter relay? I can't find one.

Get a weatherproof pushbutton and either extend out of the electrical box or mount on the side, use that to trigger a 30A relay which you can wire across the heavy supply terminal and the output to the starter solenoid - much easier than trying to break into the relay board and decipher the connections.

Thanks. The +12V post on the starter solenoid is not too difficult to get to, so adding the relay/push button will not be too difficult.

However, this starter relay is bugging me. In the black box are the two ECU's, the big glow plug relay with high current red cables and another light current relay. Pulling this relay and the engine still cranks so that isn't the one.

'jimmie' - can you post a photo of this relay?
