Jacking up a 2019 L405

Hi All,

I'm trying to jack up my 2019 L405 to change a wheel.

I raise the car height to max, then use a trolley jack to try and get the wheel off the ground but the suspension keeps drooping and the trolley jack doesn't have quite the height to take all the weight off the wheel.

Is there a way to lock the movement of the suspension that anyone knows of?

I remember in the P38 you just opened a door.

Many thanks.

Simon

You can open a door to stop the suspension from dropping or raising but it won't stop gravity dropping the wheel you are trying to jack...

A stout block of wood usually helps, put it between the jack and sill... Thumbs Up Pete

OK thanks, I'll try the tailgate/door thing tomorrow.

It didn't seem to work today but I'll have another go.

No, as I said, nothing will stop the wheel you are jacking up from dropping when you jack up the fatty, gravity takes over...!!

The only way is to extend the height of the jack, use a block of wood.... Thumbs Up Pete

Is it not possible to trolley jack the car in locked access mode? This way the car is lower. overfinch modified

I was hoping there was a way of locking the suspension...

Will try again soon.

There is NO WAY to lock the suspension when you jack it up unless you have an anti gravity machine... Banging Head Pete

before you go and bang your head again Pete, this is an extract from the owners manual,

it clearly says to open the tailgate.....
from experience i believe this prevents the other three points of the suspension from lowering when you jack up a wheel..

...and it also says this,

Stan,

That is to stop the other three wheels from self levelling, it WILL NOT help the OP, his jack does not have a high enough lift to overcome the full extension of a jacked up fatty, there is NO WAY to stop the wheel you are jacking from dropping until it hits full extension....

His only option is a block of wood or a higher lift jack, or jack the fatty up on the bottom arm of the suspension but that is not a good idea unless you really know what you are doing and is not advised...

You can stop the fatty moving the suspension but you cannot stop a wheel from dropping to it's full extent..... Thumbs Up Pete

Isn't that required for the next steps - removing the spare wheel Whistle

I've tried all sorts, opening doors, boot, hazards on etc. and not found it makes any difference.

Has anyone actually tried & measured a difference ?

Does anyone know why it should not be jacked in low mode> I,m sure I have seen a Youtube video jacking the car in low mode.
Anyway it says jack in high mode so this is the correct way. overfinch modified

Low mode... high mode, makes no difference to how high you have to jack it, on low made you just jack it more... Pete
