Fuse 18

Hi all
My dear lady’s l322 has decided to throw a wobble and the only way I can get it started is by pulling fuse 18, l have had a read up and see that there’s a couple of ways to fix the issues but was wondering if anyone has done it themselves and had some pointers or know of anyone near me who knows how to fix it properly
Cheers

My understanding is there is a small ring magnet that breaks within the steering lock solenoid causing it to jam. They can be replaced. 2007 TDV8 VSE
2003 TD6 gone.
2002 P38a gone
1999 P38a gone
1997 p38a gone

Mine failed in the locked position, luckily the car was on my drive when it finally gave up.

I can't import a 2nd hand upper column from the UK due to customs here being absolute knobs following brexit, didn't want to fork out for a new one, couldn't do without transport while trying to source magnets,

Sooo I followed a guide on YouTube where you remove the sealed unit from the upper column, disable the lock plunger in the retracted position, snip a wire or two, run a supply from the bottom of the foot well light to give a 12v supply only when the interior lights are on, and now have a steering column lock that will never fail again.

Bodgetastic, yes, but it works and there's no concerns whatsoever that it will happen again Cool
