Mine failed in the locked position, luckily the car was on my drive when it finally gave up.
I can't import a 2nd hand upper column from the UK due to customs here being absolute knobs following brexit, didn't want to fork out for a new one, couldn't do without transport while trying to source magnets,
Sooo I followed a guide on YouTube where you remove the sealed unit from the upper column, disable the lock plunger in the retracted position, snip a wire or two, run a supply from the bottom of the foot well light to give a 12v supply only when the interior lights are on, and now have a steering column lock that will never fail again.
Bodgetastic, yes, but it works and there's no concerns whatsoever that it will happen again ![Cool Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif)
