Hi, I have a 2018 L405 sdv8, autobiography. I had been noticing over past few months that i was getting low battery indicator more frequently, and been xhatging it with my ctek 10 charger. This weekend it died totally in supermRket car park. Had it jump started, got it home. Booked a new battery at halfords which was fitted this morning. Drive it away this mornkng then tried to start it tonight and it wont start!

Anyone any ideas on where to start on this? Will take it to my local garage but its usually weeks of a wait.

Put it on charge with your ctek overnight, maybe when it was sold it only had partial charge?

Check that the terminals on the battery are tight as they can cause a no start if they’re slack.

Thanks. Will have a look in the morning. It’s down here and I can’t get it in to my garage. Halfords did say they had remapped the battery.

Tempted to think that it’s too much of a coincidence that a new battery would have the same problem as the old one. I was getting regular low battery messages on my old one and the ctek charge only gave me a week before low battery messages appeared. Was planning to replace it at my mot in March but It finally died on Saturday altogether (inconveniently in Sainsbury car park!).

I had assumed that a new battery would fix it. Jump started it ok and got it to Halfords. They fitted the battery this morning and it started fine when I picked it up. My normal garage is a RR specialist but massively busy but suspect will need them to look at it.

Bizarrely, I’m not getting low battery messages, and auto lamp delay is working which I would expect to shut down if the battery was low enough not to start the engine!

Believe it or not I also fitted a Halfords battery last night - you do not need to tell the car it has a new battery - I fitted mine myself - took 10 minutes and she fired up straight away and has been used on a shoot all day today with loads of stop start driving between drives and a total round trip if 150 miles without any issue whatsoever.

I doubt it would cause OP’s symptoms but ideally you probably should reset the BMS when a new battery is installed, from the WSM:

Well… here’s an update. Trickle charge didn’t work…. Jump start didn’t work…. Called my garage and they reckon possible starter motor. Got green flag out… ran diagnostics and he reckoned the battery wasn’t talking to the ecu as hadn’t been recorded properly… it’s getting towed to the garage (independent RR specialist) not Halfords tomorrow.

Pain in the ass.
