Change mileage interval for service indicator?

I've long been in the habit of doing my car servicing every 5K miles regardless of what the car says. If the manufacture has special procedures (belts, plugs, etc.) above and beyond I do those at the recommend mileage/time.

Right now I have about 52.5K miles and it's telling me it's time for an oil service but I did it at 50K and my next isn't due (by my service schedule) until 55K miles.

Is there a way I can reset the oil service indicator now and then when I do my oil service at 55K reset it again so my next oil service comes on at about the right time? I have the IID tool if that helps.

Thanks!

You can reset the service warning easily enough at any time with your iid, but I don’t think you can alter the frequency .
Just reset it to Zero after each oil service and note the mileage.

What about for BMW based systems. i.e., 2002-2004/5?

Yes, I can reset it using this method:

Quote:
Resetting the Oil Service or Service Interval Message.
Ignition key must be “off”.
• Press and hold the trip odometer button in the instrument cluster (left button), and turn the ignition key to the first position (KLR).
• Keep the button pressed for approximately 5 seconds until one of the following words appear in the display: “OIL SERVICE, or “INSPECTION”, with “reset”.
• Release the reset button and press and hold it again until “reset” begins to flash.
• While the display is flashing, press the left button briefly to reset the service interval.
After the display has shown the new interval, the following will appear: “END SIA”

But I think 25,000km is too long and want to change the value to 10,000km (max).

FYI, I have a GAP IID, T4 (Testbook), and Faultmate MSV. I also have access to a local indie's Autologic. Ron B. VK2OTC

I think you can change it to the 'arduous use' schedule with Autologic, there isn't the option to set your own values but you can turn it off altogether. I'll have a look tomorrow and get some screenshots.

Thanks Phoenix. I'm going to my indie's workshop on Tuesday so that info would be useful. I can grab his Autologic.

I don't mind leaving it on but I would like a shorter interval. Ron B. VK2OTC

It seems the service interval can only be changed on 06 onwards, at least with Autologic
02 - 06

06 On

just reject them

It may well be worth trying the 06-09 MY, if the IPK doesn't recognise the commands, it'll just reject them. I can't remember anything on T4, not even with my 'access all areas' login, that allowed access to change the SIA.
Hope that helps!

Larry, with the bonnet or hood open, the driver's door open, switch the ignition on without starting the car... Put both feet HARD down on the brake and the throttle peddles and wait! 10 seconds or so and you should get a message on the dash saying "resetting service milage" hold down and wait and then it will tell you its "reset service milage" and voila! oil reset completed sir... Thumbs Up

No problem sir… It’s a weird phenomenon that’s worked on Range Rovers for many years… 👍
