ok been away for a week, came back to a SOC of around 12.2 (pre travel SOC @12.6) Car started first go with reported CV of 9.25v and LV warning.

All depends what you are trying to achieve really. I can now park the car for a week and still able to drive away, pre relay mod this would not be possible for me.

Note:
- I only do short trips around town with everything on, so no real opportunity for optimised SOC.
- I have installed a small piggyback relay that energises the starter relay directly from battery. The small relay has no problem engaging which is spliced into the trigger wire north of the connector at the air box SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

Yep, I have same driving patterns. Only difference is, that mine never had a problem starting, even with the old battery with sometimes less than 8V of cranking voltage. Also never had any random messages on the screen from low voltage. Guess the relay and the cable are not the problem on every 4.4TDV8 then.

Just interested, if 3s cranking time is normal for 4.4 TDV8. No concern, just interest. Smile

Well it sounds a long time, I'm expecting to see a 4.4 TDV8 in the next few weeks so I can time that as well as mine (3.6 TDV8), mine 'feels' like 1-1.5s at most.

Mine seem instant.

Have you tried waking the car up then starting? as in push the starter, let it POST then start with Brake + start switch?

Have you also explored possible fueling issues etc? Specially if it is turning over but not starting.

Mow many K's have you got on the car? SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

Fueling seems ok and car has 238 000 kms.
Haven't tried to switch the ingnition on first, good idea.

Also you're in Sydney, no wonder yours starts instantly, you have always summer mate. Very Happy Probably your glow plugs get hardly any use, they're the ones pulling a lot of current just before start. When under -20 degrees outside, they are on for about 10 seconds.

Mine has done 205k

POST the car and check how long the GP light stay on for. Split second on mine in winter, summer barely comes on.

Just recored a video and I will benchmark that with mine. Same vintage car with similar distance etc etc SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

Like I said, 10 seconds, when it is -20C, today it is -15C outside and GPs were on about 6-8 sec.
In summer GPs are not used unless it's a cold morning.

You have triangulated your answer then. You may consider DEFA type engine preheater (240v) or do a summer benchmark SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

Cranking time is the same regardless the time of year or temperature. No answer yet, since the question was, what's the exact cranking time on other 4.4TDV8-s.

ok bit of an observation, my car jumped into life soon as I pressed the starter today after parked up for 24hrs. No POST procedure here etc. This used to be a struggle in the past SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC

The mod has made the difference. I also have a new alternator, starter and new relays.

So it should read, "I had the starting problem before I made the mod" Replacing alternator, starter and new relays did not. Right now there is no starting lag what so ever. SOLD | Tuned MY 2011.5 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 Orkney Grey | e-diff | ACC
