Run the engine for a while then change the alternator when the engine is cool enough to work on Pete

Good plan. I will use the RR to go to the post office to collect the alternator 👍 |

I did struggle, as the locking tab didnt seem to release it. but I sort of dug it out by prising it tiny bit each side ...carefully. offering up the unit after, I held it with the top bolt loose, and then the front lower, and then the rear lower, whish was a pain to thread but got them all in. that's where progress stopped. got battery temp connected so I could lock the car for the night. all ok. |

my outgoing one, is original, and got to 208 thousand. it shorted out for no apparent reason, at idling speed after a short warm up previous journey. the fan cowl and fan comes out, and its wise to do the belt and pulleys at same time, and im using opportunity to do the AC compressor at same time. 6 months ago, I had to do the water pump, (slow leak) which involved fan and cowl off! that was quite easy, once revealed. you use two provided holes to wind a 10mm bolt into, which contacts the timing cover, and pulls the pump out of the cover parallel fashion. . otherwise, you cant prise it out. theres not a lot of working room on these engines. so many pipes and plastic bits. |

Water pump, belts and pulleys and AC compressor already done. Nearing 150k miles so thinking the alternator is living on borrowed time although the mechanic says it's fine last time I asked about preventative replacement. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
