Define long time? Around town in the cold, at low revs, a big heavy stainless V8 block takes a while to get up to operating temperature. For comparison, I'd say mine probably takes 4-5 miles at town speeds, or in stop/start traffic, a good 10 minutes or more. It was similar with my C Classes - they took quite a while to warm up in cold weather.

Yesterday it took 30 miles of A road and M-Way to get to temp from cold. Today in urban situation it was about 20mins. Once warmed up it runs about 72 deg in slow moving urban traffic, about 85 deg on steady M-Way sub 70mph cruise and a long uphill M-way drag it nudges 95. No fault codes. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Temp seemed more stable today but still took a good 1/2 hr of urban driving to get up to 75deg. FBH running again and puffing out smoke from the OS wheel arch which is strange as I thought it was on the NS arch. According to the info the FBH cuts in when engine temps go under 75deg and mine runs under this unless on the m-way. Something doesn’t seem right? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Broken plastic part holding thermostatic valve inside body. If You are handy ypu can try to fix it but the old overheated plastic is just weak. Replace thermostatic body. Just buy new. One used you already have. |

Seriously?? It's probably a smidgen colder (ambient) here than it will be with you and my 4.4 TDV8 will be completely warmed and up to temp within five or six miles. Thirty miles is either a mis-strike on your keyboard, or you definitely have an issue. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

It does sound like there is a (too much) circulation issue - but, to get heat out, you have to put power in, if you drive at low revs with little energy being transferred into heat, I recall the OP stating that he drives at less than ~2500rpm most of the time so the second turbo doesn't have to spool up. That sort of driving isn't going to help. |

Please explain how to drive at >2500rpm round town or even on the M-way? (engine heat is related to load and not revs) 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

You've answered it yourself, increase the load, a lightly loaded engine won't warm up quickly. |

When I start my car from cold, I certainly don't rev the nuts off it. My five or six miles is one mile to the dual carriageway and then four or five miles at under 2000rpm. Could it be as simple as a thermostat that's stuck fully open? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

My 4.4 TDV8 started having multiple regen attempts (300 in an hour!) after the inlet manifold was replaced. it took a while for my LR specialist indie to uncover the fact that the engine was running colder than necessary to complete a full regen. Turned out the thermostat housing had been damaged (probably by the LR garage who replaced the manifold) and the thermostat was open all the time, misreading the temp and upsetting the old girl. New housing and all well after 20,000 miles. I reckon as said on here, your thermostat is at fault. Last edited by Dolphinboy on 12th Feb 2023 7:47pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Mine runs warm enough ( 85ish deg) on the M-Way to regen OK (watched it yesterday) and was even doing some passive regeneration. The slow warm up and the engine temp running <75deg in on light load/ urban driving just seems wrong and I'd also suspect the thermostat from this behaviour. The fan has stopped spooling up for a few seconds while driving away but not sure what to make of this? Would be grateful for some running temps from the GAP IID tool from other owners. Temp needle hits midway at around 75deg which still seems low. Oil temp lags behind coolant for a while which is to be expected. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
