When the wire clip is lifted the hose fitting can then be pulled off the spout. |

Hi Jayk ... I had the same problem with the thin brittle breather hose snapping, necessitating ordering a new 4 way hose assembly and (like you) thought the top hose would be tricky so I just disconnected it from the other end (at the four way connector) using hose pliers (and did the same on the new part) resulting in only 3 new hoses being installed. The issue was the thin breather after all not the large top hose (and you will still have that as a spare).

The o-ring in the hose fitting where it connects to the thermostat housing on mine was weaping as the fitting moves slightly when the engine moves within its mounts which wears the o-ring. Therefore best to fit the whole new hose assembly. |

Each to his own. My top hose has precisely the same heavy duty spring clip fitted at the block as the ones fitted at the four way connector. So not a thin wire spring clip and no o-ring, just a direct water-tight connection. And therefore required heavy duty hose clamp plier access in that tight space. The new assembly (as mentioned) had a different connector (which was a thinly wired spring clip with an o-ring). So LR have clearly changed connector at some stage. Presumably to make removal easier (when the breather snaps) but sacrificing water tightness by using a much weaker connection (the same type fitted on the plenum valve body) that moves with engine vibration and therefore has a propensity to leak (or in this case weep from the block). Glad I left the old (water tight) type on. |

I see that Microcat shows the original hose has been superseded and mine has the later hose. I therefore assume that the thermostat housing has also been superseded as mine has a smooth surface for the seal in the hard plastic housing which would be unsuitable for a clamped-on hose as there isn't a retaining lip.

Thanks everyone for your experiences i have not had a chance to look properly where the big hose joins the block. I did think it was clamped in place so was surprised the new hose ass has the clip type.

The current part number LR029140 with the clip is unchanged from its introduction at VIN BA340710. |

Mine's hose has a band around it attaching it to the plastic housing that slides onto the water outlet housing. The part number for the water outlet housing was unchanged during the L322 production and the top hose was superseded twice (not once) during production, indicating that all versions of the hose has the clip-on fitting in the end. Hence I suspect that your spring clip around the hose has since been replaced with a band but that your hose still connects to a housing that fits to the outlet housing the same as the later hoses. If you were to look further in you should see the wire clip holding the fitting that's in the end of the hose to the water outlet. The clip can be lifted with a screw-driver to its unclipped position, allowing the plastic fitting to be withrawn. BTW, I replaced my temporary nitrile 45mm x 3.5mm o-ring with a Viton75 one today. |
