There are loads of these videos at this particular ford. You wonder why they haven't built a bridge.

One thing I noticed is the cars that rush in, have a bow wave, water over the bonnet, they often stall and have to be towed out. And on some of these videos after they've been rescued they open the air box and it's full of water. They also often have bodywork damage and/or loose a number plate.

Drivers that go in slowly, don't build up a bow wave, they often get through, even some quite small cars.

Why do off road experts say 'go fast enough for a bow wave' as that would get the water high enough to enter the air box? Just asking like, the only off road driving I've done was to avoid paying at a car park.

By the way, I've not seen a RR stuck in these video's, but plenty of other LR products, even some jacked up disco's.

I believe the idea is that you “push” the bow wave, rather than going too fast and forcing the water in through the front of your car. Said bow wave then creates a slightly shallower level of water near your front wheels as the water has not yet flowed back in to fill the space vacated.

Obviously, the key thing here - you have to keep moving….. and if you spend ages driving round in it, things are gonna get wet….

I was also told that to keep the foot on the accelerator pedal at all times, so that no water feeds into the exhaust system, ideally be in the lowest gear possible so the revs are higher than normal to achieve this

Balancing act that one, as the higher revs can speed up the fan on the front of the engine… throwing water everywhere…. But yes, don’t want water up the exhaust or it can stall the engine….

In the olden days folk used to take the fan belt off, but that would involve stopping and prepping for the water 🤣 not as much fun as going straight in and creating a splash….

Over the last year or so we’ve become quite the connoisseurs. BMW are hands down the worst for getting stranded, with LR stuff usually being damaged due to user error more than the car itself.

I have a towing rope in my car, and welly boots, have towed about 10 people out over the last 20 or 30 years, everyone one of them had no idea what they were doing - stupido on every level

There’s no need to build a bridge at Rufford, if you nip to Ollerton roundabout, take the road into Ollerton, then at the next roundabout, last exit to Wellow/Newark, you miss the ford, and vice versa, 10 mins max.
That’s why the locals can’t understand why morons want to trash their motors, make good viewing though

Been watching these for ages , weirdly satisfying tbh. It's the utter cock sockets going in far too fast, especially the workies vans. Tough chat with your boss, er i've shagged the van mate . Most have absolutely zero mechanical sympathy. Garages round that way must get some work with hydro locked engines.
