4.4TDV8 FBH - quick question!

On my 08 3.6 Vogue, the FBH would run when starting a cold engine if the ambient temp was under 5deg.

Question is, does the FBH work in exactly the same way on the 4.4 TDV8? The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Thanks MJ!

Can you confirm this is specifically the 4.4 TDV8 manual? I've been investigating on-line, but can't get into Topix The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Yes, it’s the 4.4 TDV8.

The Workshop Manual is in the Wiki, but you’ll have to download it.

Thanks again MJ!

Yes, I have the workshop manual downloaded, but aside from instructions on repairs and torques, I couldn't find an explanation of the system in it.

I suppose I could have gone out to the car to look at the manual, but it's dark, cold and wet out there tonight! Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

I'm just working on a phone controlled switch with a temperature switch for the FBH, to replace the need for the remote and enable me to turn on the FBH from anywhere.

Seems like a nice little mod to do, especially if you don't already have a remote. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

FBH as pre-heater (from fob or timed-climate):
.. to -20° will run and heat cabin (not engine)
-20° and lower will run and heat cabin and engine
FBH as auxiliary heater (cold engine start):
.. to +8° will not run
+8 and lower will run.

JMC, I don't know whether it's relevant that my car hasn't been started for a few weeks but the last couple of days when starting with a cold engine, the FBH has shrouded my street with a smoke cloud and the outside temperature was about 8-10 degrees.
I've never used the timed setting and don't have a remote fob.
Cheers Kev.

Smoke mean late ignition. If not use long time its normal at first start. If its continue, burning chamber need to replace (evaporator fault, not serviceble).

In very cold conditions ……
There is a changeover valve which can isolate the engine coolant circuit from the heating coolant circuit for cabin heat.
And this happens at 15 degrees and below
BUT
In very cold conditions,
-20 degrees and below
The changeover valve is not energised and the blower is not activated. Heated coolant is circulated around the engine and heater cores to heat the engine and aid starting.

No blower means no cabin heat …..

Never experienced -20 and below in Uk so cannot talk from experience, but this is from the workshop manual.
