Deployable Side Steps fitted… roof button goes where?

Evening All!

So, I’ve just joined the Deployable Sidesteps club! Got a fantastic FaceBook deal on a set which has snapped rear brackets, but have had them welded and they seem to work fantastically! Nice and smooth and no issues with their speed.

I need to fix my side skirts (and some rust) before I upload any pictures…

However, the issue I have… is that the roof button doesnt fit!

The instructions show the button screwing into that section of the roof console, however my car simply had a vent. I’ve removed it, but have no options to fit my button.

Is there a simple part i can order to allow me to fit my button? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

This is the part in the roof console that was taken out… clearly not designed to hold a button…

No direct help, but what you have taken out is where the microphone goes for the phone/voice control.

Can’t see a pic of a switch fitted… sure I’ve seen some somewhere.

Now that is what i assumed before taking the console down… it turns out my microphone is behind one of those central “vents” to the left of the button in my picture… with the other being empty.

I dont have a picture of the rear, but the microphone is a circular device.

Not sure if there are differences based on age? My car is registered in 2011, but reports as an MY12… Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Just looked on autotrader and searched for the word deployable.

Looks like it is fitted in that position, as you say, must have moved the mic from when I had my TD6 then.

I can see a pic of one with the switch here…

Maybe you can mod the vent one, but looks like there might be a new outer section used….

When you buy the kit you get the surround that fits into.

That would be why then… I purchased bits separately.
I’ll check the bay of E for the part… unless anyone knows where to buy one from? Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Ah sorry ffrr-lover I did forget to mention that there is a black surround for the button to clip into. It just screws into place where the other black vent type thingy is in the roof panel. I might be wrong but I seen craddock 4x4 selling parts for deployable steps, you could give them a try. And good to see they are working spot on. You having better luck than me lol.

I enquired about that bit before when I started trying to piece together a kit from bits I’d found but it wasn’t available separately from the kit unfortunately.

Your best bet would be to find a breaker where the seller will sell it.

i cut carefully this black microphone plate to fit button inside. fits perfectly. Just need to do it really carefully because after cuting hole there will be about 2mm of plastic on the sides.

Ah, it can be dine! When i eyed it up it looked like the button was too wide!

I’ll have a look at doing the same… while looking at breakers, Craddock 4x4, etc, in case they have something. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

Cheers for helping me out on this Thumbs Up
I’m really happy with them… although they are coming off again at the weekend (hopefully) to treat the rust I found!

I’ll also take a look at cleaning them up and greasing them too. They work well, but no harm in doing so. Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

One carefully “adjusted” plate now fitted with the button! Not the tidiest of jobs… but better than a hanging button! It’ll do until I find the proper parts Thumbs Up Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8
