4.4 TDV8 viscous fan

Morning All i have a clicking on start up and after replacing everything connected to the aux belts its still there but only when cold, ive done some research and things may be pointing to the viscous fan, in the morning when cold there is a loud ticking but the loud roar has gone also when the engine is upto operating temp you can feely spin the fan there is a little resistance but not much.

What i intend to do is remove the fan from its spindle and rest it in the cowl and then when the engine is cold start i up and if the clicking has gone its definitely the fan, my question is due to this being part electric and viscous will it be ok to do this as i dont know if the fan has an electric motor built in or if its a form of clutch that engages, as it spins up on tickover when the AC is on 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

I think it just has electric engagement, no electric motor. I'd be inclined to disconnect the multiplug just to be safe.
I think other people have reported a 'clicking' when the water pump was on it's way out.

Clicking on the 4.4 TDV8 whilst it's warming up, coming from the viscous fan coupling, is entirely normal and nothing to be worried about.

A constant noise, once up to temperature, is something to investigate. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

my clicking seems to be louder now than what it was in the summer months, but is does ebb away when engine is warm, or after I have driven for ten minutes and park up - I have a quick listen before I turn off the engine,

am keeping an eye on it, just in case the water pump is on its way out Sad
